We're now back in the season of pubs and cafes serving mulled wine. I'm considering giving one a try. Has anyone else done this with successful diabetes management?

I would guess it would be at least 20g of carbohydrate.

It all depends on what goes into it. I find with wine (on its own, not heated) that it will usually send my BG down a bit. The liver stops adding glucose, and there isn't enough carb in the (red) wine to offset this.

I have a couple of bottles of "mulled wine" at the back of the cupboard - they're quite old now. Add cinnamon and heat in a saucepan, basically. Unfortunately the sugar content is just way too high for me, and being hot it would hit the bloodstream much more quickly....

If you want to give it a go, I'd advise testing before and at the 2 hour point to see what's going on. You might be able to cope with it.

Its usually quite sugar-rich (and therefore carbs) and as @KennyA says - lots of different recipes so a bit of a guess.

I'd estimate at 40g per glass (assuming a 175ml or upwards) and see what happens.

It'll be fast acting carbs (most of the alcohol evaporates during its cooking) so you'd need to pre-bolus. Just be ready with a mince pie in case you overestimate (which is a win-win).

I'm currently in Germany touring Christmas markets.
I'm a type 2 wearing a libre.
No Gluhwein I've had here has shifted my bg at all, but at home in UK it has, most times. Maybe the bottled ones we get have more sugar in? I do wish they had to label drinks like they do food.
I feel your pain of uncertainty

I think there’s one here in the U.K. that isn’t at all sugary; it’s found in a popular supermarket and has a gingerbread flavour.
I usually make my own. It makes the house smell good too.

Interesting. That's quite a lot then isn't it? A medium serving of wine is 175ml so that's 15g of carbs.
No, it isn't much at all @RobertJ 75cl is a standard sized bottle = 750ml. So, 6.5 gm of carbs per bottle is very little indeed!

Personally, I doubt that a mulled wine would be so low in carbs - so please test your own reaction carefully!
