I wouldn't be so sure you'll be put on meds.
If your lab hba1c comes back at 49 as well, this means you're right on the threshold between prediabetes and diabetes, and making some small adjustments to your diet may be enough to drop right back into the non diabetic zone. :)

Hi @tom1179 and welcome to the forums.

Although 49 is diabetic it is only just so, so if you wish you'd have a good chance of reducing your levels just by tweaking your diet a bit. (A lot of the T2s here reduce their levels by reducing the amount of carbohydrate in their diets).

As for meds, some have side effects for some people, that's the nature of medication.

Once more, welcome.

At 49 you are only just into the diabetes range. You could get those levels down by adopting a low carb way of eating.
You don't have to take medicines, many of us dont.
I never knew that so if I change my diet I could go back to normal and would I be classed as non diabete then?

At a reading of 49 You'll most likely be told a retest will be done in 3 months to confirm diagnosis, so cut out the carbs and the next test will be at worst pre-diabetic.
49 is borderline and they cannot really diagnose due to potential inaccuracies.
When you say tested at work, was a sample of blood drawn and sent away, or analysed there and then.

Hello, they took a sample of blood and put it into a machine it took about 10 min for it to give readings.
Thanks

I bought a metre to check blood after eating in morning 2 hours so far it's in the 9s and today it's 8.2 can someone please send a link to eat in mornings afternoons as I need to cut the carbs out like bread. Thanks

Check out dietdoctor.com for ideas. Ideally check your blood glucose before eating as well as checking 2 hours after.

The lab test came back at 48 so it's better than 49 have cut back on stuff and it's going down last week from the 9s 8s this morning two hours after eating it was 6.4 just have to keep this up and stay on here.

Nice...& Heading in the right direction.

This early on it's like an oil tanker, slow to turn, so don't be despondent.

Once the adjustment is made you'll make better headway into your next test.

Good luck.
