People that feel just because diabates is a life-threatening "illness" it should be treated with kid gloves and nobody is allowed to have a laugh. My humour got me through abuse, near death experiences, serious and debilitating illnesses and lifelong pain and deformity - why give up the thing that works??
welcome to the forum ...stick around, the info will surely help and begin to make sense as you take each info with the results people achieve from it ... you've found the best place on the net to get info and support :) best, J/x

Hello
I've just joined too... type 2.. just confirmed today, was borderline wavering between glucose intolerance and diabetes for a few years and gestational diabetic a few times so knew it was coming one day.
treatment still not confirmed although hoping they'll let me try to control by diet as I hate taking medication!
Anyway just wanted to say Hello.

Hi New members!
a simple guideline on food is
Go Atkins. Get a meter and monitor, at least at first. You may be able to get s meter free from one of the manufacturerers, but test strips are more problematical. Many of us fund our own. the PCTs don't want us to have them. They cost too much.
find out how much each food causes your BG to go up.
Get used to reading the panels on food packaging. I for example don't use anything with a carb count above10% ( except dark choccolate at 33%which is just eaten in tiny portions for a treat.
