Hi, I'm Shu, and new to forums. I was diagnosed with type 2 some time ago, but having just retired, now have time to investigate just how I can help myself and not be prescribed insulin. I've been on Metformin for some time, which seems to work. :)

I'm having trouble with travel insurance. We are off to Morocco at the end of February, then Tenerife in May. Any ideas how/where I find reasonable insurance?

Hi Shu
My husband is a T1 and I a T2. We get our travel inssurance free through our bank account with Lloyds.
Otherwise try Diabetes Uk. They are useful for a few things

Hi Shu,

Sounds like you will be needing an annual policy if you are doing several trips this year. You can arrange travel insurance through this forum's own website:
http://www.diabetes.co.uk/guide-to-diab ... urance.asp

I did and it worked out cheaper than the big insurers were offering.

You need to be careful because many insurance companies will sell you travel insurance but when you look at the small print they will not cover any pre-existing conditions (like your diabetes!). The smaller specialist insurers provide cover specifically for people with diabetes.

Hi

Just a few questions to help with any future questions.
Will you update your profile to add which type of diabetes you have, which meds and provide some info about your diet?
eg Information for a T1 can be very different than a T2.
