Newbie possibly has Prediabetes?

Hi, I'm Meganne. I joined this forum yesterday, as I believe I may have prediabetes. I have had thrush on and off for years, and also my blood pressure was higher than normal, and I was gradually putting on weight. About two months ago I decided enough was enough. I have tried various diets in my life and have lost weight and then put on twice as much!

I decided to cut out refined sugar (I was always a chocoholic, ice creamaholic, full sugar coke addict, dessert and sweet addict). I also cut out processed food. I refused to buy anything whose ingredients looked like a science experiment. I buy organic as much as I can. I have organic plain yoghurt sweetened with a little stevia, and drink PLJ in sparkling water sweetened with a little stevia. I even make my own ice cream using stevia instead of sugar. I'm losing weight slowly, and am not experiencing so much thrush itching. All good!

I went to my doctors over a week ago for a prescription review, and I told him about my diet change, and how my blood pressure was lower now, and that I still needed some cream for the itch, but that my symptoms showed improvement. He decided to do a blood test foe glucose and cholesterol, my first ever tests for this! I was so surprised and disappointed that my fasting glucose test was 7.4! I dread to think what it would have been three months ago! I had a re-test a few days after and it's still 7.4! I am away from home at the minute until the end of November and I have made an appointment to see him on my return. He advised me to avoid refined sugar, which is what I've been doing! He advised me to see a doctor in Coventry if I felt unwell before then.

I have the yeast infections, and am more tired than I used to be,and sleep for longer, but I am 61. My thirst has not increased, and I'm rarely hungry after meals. I have decided to get a monitor and see what's going on here. I'm also starting to exercise a bit. Am I doing the right things here? :? :?:

You might be or might not be doing the right things. That is not the issue.

The issue that you should be addressing is one of diagnosis, you need to ask for some tests so the doctor can diagnose
if you are or are not diabetic.

If you are there is much you can do to help things along, Losing weight, cutting out all sugars, controlling how much carbohydrate you eat and so on.

But until you have a firm diagnosis it is difficult to make suggestions.

So go and get those tests done and then let us know how you got on, if you are diabetic then you are in the right forum for information and help.

My doctor has at last diagnosed me as having Type 2 Diabetes. I am due to be given my new meter shortly and am due to see the diabetes specialist when she returns to work after getting whooping cough! I will be visiting this forum often methinks. :)
