Its torture when you are diagnosed and have to give things up, but the alternatives are in reality likely to be worse than the hardship of giving things up -in my opinion at least.
Sorry if I sound harsh (not meaning to, honest) but sugar in tea is what I would use to treat a hypo because pure and simple sugar is likely to be the fastest thing to hit your blood in terms of raising sugars. As a Type 2 I dont know if your residual insulin would make a difference to your tolerance of this but i cant see that it would.
Most type 2's i come across on forums manage their carbohydrate intake
very carefully either by cutting right back and reducing what they used to eat.,Others are more strict and limit most visible carbohydrates (bread, pasta, rice, chapattis, floury stuff, pastries etc). The standard advice from GP's/health profs is to eat lost of carbs but cut down on sweets and chocolate. Sound enough advice re sweets and choc but you might find that a slice of white bread for example is nearly as bad as having some chocolate! Advice about testing is paramount -its the only way to find out what effects you.
Loads of type 1's also limit/reduce carbohydrates - myself included.
There are lots of posts on the forum, including hana's recent carb 101 which will help flesh this out for you. Try it and see, if you can, it WILL make a difference. With a bg of 23 there is room for improvement and the only way is down!
.
Good luck
