Hello,

Does anyone one have any tips for night cramps, I have not slept properly for 2 weeks, I get severe pains after about 2 hours in bed, usually in the front of my shins and side of my calf, the pain is unbearable, I walk around for about 10 to 15 mins and try to get back to sleep and the pain returns in about an hour or so.

I was diagnosed 8 days ago T2, my doctor had put be on quinine before the diagnosis to assist with the leg cramps, unfortunately he did not do a liver function test prior to prescribing quinine, I have since been diagnosed with high liver phosphate and been taken of quinine as it is not to be taken with an abnormal liver.

I do not think the sleep imbalance is helping me get my sugars down, currently at around 16 fasting test and hovering around 20 mmol during the day, I am on 2 x 80gm Gliclazide and diet management.

If anyone has any suggestions to help with the cramps I would be most grateful, I am starting to feel really fed up with it, as I do not seem to be making progress, I was hoping that if my sugars came down I might see relief, but they are just not dropping.

thanks

Hi there!

A Magnesium supplement is definitely worth a try. Muscle cramps can be due to a variety of factors, lactic acid build up can be of major concern. But that's the extreme. A simple answer can be Magnesium Supplements especially if you take Diuretics. Cramps invariably stem from lacking in elementals, phosphates, Statins and in the extreme Lactic Acidosis. Do you drink enough water? Cramps also happen if your body is dehydrated, salt deprived or due to a Potassium deficiency. As most Diabetics eliminate Potato and Banana from their diets this could be a result. Hope this helps?

Thanks Vern, interesting on the magnesium, I am with my GP Monday morning and will check if I am OK to take a Magnesium supplement, hoping it works and that I can try it, thanks Mark
