Does anyone have any suggestions for managing night shifts ? I’m rota to do a night shift soon and it will be my first since being diagnosed and normally I’d use red bull, full fat coke and snacks to help me get though the night, but that’s not really an option anymore,
So just wondering what other do?

A piece of cheese is easy to pack and eat on the run. So is a handful of raw nuts.
Cheese would work but sadly we aren’t allowed nuts as we have a number of staff and young people who are allergic to them so it’s a nut free site

Cheeses, hard boiled eggs, charcuterie meats, tomatoes, cucumber, can all be put in one of those multi compartment snack boxes.

I make simple cheese crackers. I usually add herbs and sesame seeds to mine. They keep fairly well in an airtight container. https://thebigmansworld.com/keto-crackers/

You can buy low carb bread or rolls on line for sandwiches.

If you want caffeine I’d stick to black coffee (or coffee with cream) or Diet Coke.

You can still get a caffeine hit if that’s what you’re after with Diet Coke, Coke Zero or black coffee, no sugar or white using just a little milk.

That’s the sort of thing I’m thinking of,
I found some low carb wraps in Tesco and Sainsbury’s,
The cheese crackers sound nice but I can’t take to work because of the almond flour in them
I’m thinking of going with the coffee and Pepsi max option as don’t like the taste of Coke zero

Ah, I hadn’t thought of the almond flour. There are other low carb flours that might work. Coconut flour, or there are low carb flours from the low carb food company, or panda flour. It would need some experiments to work out ratios unless anyone here has experience.

if a fan of cheese some health stores sell crisps made out of purely cheese (expensive). however you can also made your own crisps putting some grated cheese in the oven baking parchment. one cal spray the baking sheet. tiny wee balls of grated cheese. 5-8 minutes in the oven at 200 degrees. alternatively can melt under the grill lightly brown leave to cool. only reason for grating cheese is its quicker to cook could do same with small squares just would take alittle bit longer. add some herbs and/or spices to some to mix it up a little :)

I find that I have far more stamina these days with little to no need for 'top ups' between the two meals which was my usual routine but is now becoming one and a half meals at around 12 hourly intervals.
On top of that I am insufferably cheerful when it is dark, cold and wet at silly o'clock.
I have a wide mouthed steel flask and if I need a hot meal out of the house I usually put some hot from the pan sausages or chicken thighs in that - or I have strained out the solid meat and veges from a beef stew.

@grantg and @LouT I make taco shells out of melted cheddar cheese. I grate some cheddar in a pan, let it cool a bit then I put the warm cheese pancake into a taco mould. It looks like a corn taco, but it’s cheese. Once hardened I fill it with lettuce, tomatoes etc.
