All that talk on another thread this morning by @kimbo1962 and @alliebee of their sausage and coleslaw combos sent me to the sausage counter of my local Lidls and Waitrose today.

I couldn't find any sausages in Lidls (its a small branch) above 66% meat so went back to my comfort zone by nipping into Waitrose to see what they had. On the top shelf of the sausage section I found these. I wasn't going to buy them as they were only 85% pork but I found myself morphing into the type of shopper I get so impatient with - someone who stands for ages in front of the counter I want to get to, rummaging for their spectacles to read the back of every single packet! I'm glad I did. These look good quality and best news of all they are only 1.9g. of carb

They're a bit pricey at £3.19 but as I'm not a great lover of sausages, I thought I'd treat myself

Apologies if this is old news. I probably need to get out more....o_O

You might want to try the Sainsbury's 97% pork sausages.

They contain no sugars in the ingredients and even when cooked only have 3g of carbs per 100g.

Will do Allie. Just re-read the pack and they are actually 1.9g per 100g so as there are 6 in a 400g pack, it makes them a lot less than 1.9g each

Not seen those in Lidl before, I wonder if they are a special line only on for the week. The Milton Gate brand they normally sell are very good and have a high-meat content.

Found these in Waitrose in the end @noblehead . Didn't notice the Milton Gate brand but will look out for them. Thanks for the tip

Ah right, Waitrose................hence the price :)

But you do have to pay a little extra for quality sausages, we are having sausages tonight from our local butchers, he doesn't believe in fillers and such and there's very little fat comes from them when you grill them.

I tried the Black Farmers premium pork sausages for the first time today. 1 carb per 100g. Each sausage is approx. 67g. They were delicious, so thank you all for recommending them on the other thread.

The sausages do sound good, but.............. do they have any gluten, wheat, rye, barley or oats in them by chance?

Thanks :)

RRB

I've had those sausages from Waitrose Diana - very nice they are too.

I've just retrieved the packing from the bin RRB. Here's the ingredients

Outdoor bred pork- 85%
Gluten free flour,
Maize starch
Salt, dextrose
Egg white
Sea Salt
Spices - white pepper, ginger, mace, nutmeg, cayenne
Sugar -Stabiliser (E450)
Herbs - Sage, thyme
Preservative
Yeast extract
Antioxidants
Sodium citrate
Onion powder
Rosemary extract

I think mine may be lower carb, but they do have gluten in them as breadcrumbs are included.

Ahhh that's a shame about the breadcrumbs :( never mind. I did try some sausages when first diagnosed, but the texture was awful and for the life of me I cannot remember the name of them, but I bought them from Morrison's, 6 in a packet, just didn't like them.

Phew! Most welcome RRB. The brand is Paul Rankin as endorsed by @sanguine ;) I used to love his soda bread but gave it up for LCHF. Paul Rankin's bread not Rod's!

Paul Rankin, he's the Irish chef ? I too used to eat some soda bread, but it's mainly crackers now. Corr........... I could just eat a sausage sandwich with brown sauce right now:hungry::happy: but alas, just a dream..................

Thanks again RRB

Yes, it is he

I normally go for Tesco finest. From memory they are 97% pork and have 1g carb.... And I prefer them to black farmers, and normally cheaper.
