Hi,

Nothing seems to work, i followed the NHS advice on sleep hygiene. It has effected me to the point of where i now go to work on zero hours sleep and my gp wont give me medication due to past OD patients, i have tried everything from CBD to Magnesium now i have asked to see a specialist but due to covid that will be difficult and probably not anytime soon, my manager at work has been supportive in that she hasn't dismissed me from my job due to being slow and getting nothing done on time due to fatigue.. i feel sluggish and my legs and arms feel like i have run a marathon.. i don't know i thought i would write a thread on how i was feeling.

Hi,

Many years ag I was dating someone with this issue.. I accompanied her to some sort of sleep expert?

Here is what was said. (Slightly paraphrased.) The bedroom has two functions. Primarily sleep. (The other was intimacy.) Don't have any distractions. TVs (you could include any "tech" these days too.) even reading a book. Keep them to the appropriate living space.

Kinda made sense to me at the time. I have heard stories of mobile phones possibly messing with sleep patterns. (But I keep an open mind on that.)

Hope this helps.

Since CBD isn't having any effect, have you looked into a weighted blanket? I loved mine until my hip got inflamed again and now I can't tolerate the weight, but the moment I'm okay, I'm sleeping under that thing again. A weighted blanket should be 10% of your bodyweight or thereabouts. Don't go straight for an expensive one, just try a cheapish brand to try it out, it's not for everyone.

Thats very helpful, i have tried that before i put my alarm on and then i turn and lay down and i have been trying breathing techniques.. unfortunately even after many years it hasn't seemed to help, i have been told to listen to music but that hasn't helped me. I am open to suggestions and i appreciate your help.

Yes, was on CBD for about 1 year or more every night, - spent a lot of money on it but unfortunately it wasnt working, - i haven't heard of that before, i will look it up or can you tell me any affordable 1 on the internet, i shall give that a try.

I’m so sorry to hear you are going through this, it’s horrible when you can’t sleep. I was prescribed tablets to use short term twice last year (gp gave me enough for a week each time) which helped break the cycle of sleep anxiety - too anxious I wouldn’t get to sleep that I didn’t sleep etc.
Now when I have problems I watch something on my iPad/laptop (I know this isn’t recommended!) until I feel drowsy then close my eyes and listen to it, and always drop off! I usually choose a nature documentary, something that’s not too stimulating. Sometimes following the rules given to you about creating the right environment, meditating, no screens etc make you more anxious as you’re actively thinking about sleep

Just check your local amazon, that's where I got mine. Lots of brands, weights and prices to choose from.
