Morning folks,

Struggling here looking for help please.
I feel absolutely ****, just blaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh . . . constant moods swings - mainly big dips . . .
Thought I had a handle on this but the games changing.

Diagnosed T2 about 4 years ago and was prescribed gliclazide and metformin however after taking them for about 6 months weaned myself of them with low carb and exercise. HbA1c was usually around 5.5

Last few months have been a struggle with numbers all over the place, last HbA1C was 7.3

This last couple of weeks I had readings through the day consistently in the high teens and nothing I try seems to bring them down. Started back on gliclazide 2 months ago and doseage has slowly increased and this week on maximum of 320 daily (2x 160)

Numbers remain high. I have a docs appointment tomorrow (for something else) and an appointment with regular diabetes nurse a week Monday. I'm in two minds whether or not to discuss it with the doc as his usually honest response is that the specialist nurse know more than him.

Has my diabetes progressed to a point where I will be insulin dependent? Would that make me T1 or still T2 but insulin dependent? (Is there such a thing?)

I normally take plentty of exercise and lift weights but just so wiped recently haven't had the energy or enthusiasm.

Also seeing as how the gliclazide is having no effect and I'm convinced it's the high dose that's making me feel so **** do you think I could cut the dose?

Any thoughts on that or options on how to bring my numbers down appreciated.

Gliclazide varies!
Metformin 2x 1000
Bisoprolol 2.5mg
Perindopril 8mg
Indapamide 2.5mg

Sorry to hear of your problems, @Signs :(

I don't think anyone here would be qualified to comment on reducing dosages; much better to discuss with your doctor/HCP.

I'd be inclined to ask for a c-peptide test to find out what your insulin production status is.

Just a quick response to your question re insulin - you will still be type 2. My daughter has been on insulin since she was approx 16, she is T2 but has other complications.
As regards "insulin dependent", I guess most would say no - a T1 cannot live without insulin (I believe!) but it's not the same for T2, not life threatening. Personally, my daughter can become extremely ill without her insulin so I do use the term insulin dependent, rightly or wrongly. Hope you can come to a good outcome when you discuss with your HCP.

Hey John.
Don't beat yourself up and try not to stress about it, it will only raise your levels.

Mmmm, have you been prescribed all that medication recently to take every day?

I was on Gliclazides to start with for 6 months, then they stopped working, as well as Simvastatin for cholesterol. Now just on Metaformin 500mg with every meal, 3x daily. My levels aren't perfect but are coming into range slowly. (7,7-8.5 on a regular basis). A mass improvement from when I was first diagnosed.

If the medication isn't working ie the tablets, you doctor can prescribe insulin to control your levels better. My doctor has mentioned this to me before, if I don't get my levels under control. So it's not uncommon.

By coming off your medication and just on a diet probably hasn't worked, and you possibly had to start again.

But at a guess as I mentioned before it could be; your body reacting to something, a balanced diet versus work out regime, reevaluate medication?

Just be honest with your doctor and nurses with all and any information so they can find the correct formula and approach to help you out.

If was a betting man I would say it's medication and diet (probably more calorie intake). But I'm no expert.

Hope all goes well and you get the advice you need to nail the problem. Hang on in there and good luck.
