Hiya Hook, iv been type1 diabetic for 3 yrs now. I also have numbness in feet/ hands & it's like a cramp ness in my toes my GP has said I have neuropathy as does the podiatrist, I was prescribed Gabapentin for this. I personally don't think it takes the pain away but it does take the edge of it. Good luck anyway & take care xx

Thanks for replying. I still haven't rung for appointment, will do now shortly.
Interesting what you say about your hands too. One of my hands has been going cold at night on and off for years. It's now most of the arm. I've been going to my GP about it since it started and all they say is carpal tunnel syndrome - even though I also have a painful neck and shoulder on that side. (I'm talking over 14yrs this is going on.)

Finally refered to specialist about my arm and he says it's not presenting like carpal tunnel and I need to go to Belfast for more tests. At long last someone is listening to me on that front!

As for my feet, I'm nervous to hear what they have to say. Then again they might be able to clear up any fears I have!

Hi Hooked, :)

The first thing I would say is good on you for nipping things on the bud.
I think you have a few little problems that are linking with each other. Small fracture caused by table, mild raynaud’s causing cold hands etc; numbness caused by diabetes. ( just a wild guess from a member who had toe pain last night, but ok today and has slight raynauds.)
All can be treated these days.
Best of luck with the GP sorting these things out.

Remember your feet have a lot of work to do so I would make sure they double check the metatarsal bone.

Roy. :)

Just wanted to update on this thread (if anyone is interested!).

Went to see podiatrist. Was told that feet all fine apart from a verucca, athletes foot (came up just a few days before going to see her) and a fungal nail infection on the nail of the toe which was damaged and then removed due to dropping the table. I told her my worries about neuropathy and she assured me my feet were fine despite the symptoms I told her of. She told me to buy treatments for the verucca and athletes foot in chemist and use tea tree oil on the nail.

I went to chemist and they refused to sell me anything, saying that I would have to go to Dr to get a prescription due to my diabetes. Currently still haven't been able to get appointment.

So anyway. I went at the weekend for nerve conduction tests on my arms. I've carpal tunnel in both wrists, the right one will need operated on. He then decided to test out my legs and confirmed my fears; that I DO have neuropathy. I kind of came out of there feeling glad in a way, if that makes sense. Both the GP and the Podiatrist made me feel like I was over analysing every twinge I had and making a fuss. Now I know I wasn't and that my worries really should have been addressed. Only for a fact that this specialist took it apon himself to test my legs/feet, goodness knows how long it would have gone along undiagnosed with those in the medical profession I was talking to about my symptoms.

I'm now awaiting an appointment with the specialist closer to home. Apart from confirmed diagnoses of carpal tunnel and neuropathy, I know nothing on what I should and shouldn't be doing etc.
