Hi All.
I have been having trouble walking and very painful legs, so painful that they often wake me up in the night. I went to my GP who diagnosed peripheral neuropathy..she suggested a sleeping pill....which I didnt accept, has anyone here got any suggestions?

That seems a strange suggestion from your doctor. It may help you sleep, but won't help with the pain on walking!

Several people on here take R-Alpha Lipoic Acid supplements and find they help a lot. This is actually prescribed for neuropathy in some countries, although it is then given in large doses intravenously.

Other suppliers are available if you Google. It isn't cheap! There are 2 sorts, and you need the R-ALA one. The other sort doesn't have the "R" in the front.

May I also ask if your blood sugars are under control? High BS cause the neuropathy, so keeping them well down will help a lot, and you may even get rid of it completely.

Hi @fiestynan . Sorry to hear of your pains. There's a lot of thoughts and suggestions to help with neuropathy.
For starters I'll suggest R-alpha lipoic acid . Although not prescribed in the U.K. It is prescribed to diabetics in I believe Germany as a preventative/ treatment for neuropathy. As a supplement it is used by a fair few members on the forum, with mixed levels of success. A daily dose of 600g seems to be most beneficial. I also recall a mention of B12 helping some with neuropathy as well.
Fortunately I don't suffer with neuropathy so I'm not overly familiar with all treatments available but I'm certain others will be along with more advice.

Thank you for your replies, I will look up R-Alpha lipoic acid , blood sugars are a little high at the moment, but I am taking B12 daily, this diabetes has a lot to answer for doesnt it?

Can we help with this? Which diabetes medications are you taking, and what sort of eating plan do you follow?
