Hi,

I have been here before a while ago but couldn't remember my username so have had to re register...

My mum has diabetes that is controlled with tablets, she has had it for 3 years now so its fairly well managed. The last couple of days she has mentioned how she feels pins and needles in her toes on one foot...its not something she has had before. Has anyone else experienced this??

She has spoken to her doctor but to be honest they are not very good (we had issues with them before that i posted here a while ago - giving wrong info etc) so they don't fill us with confidence.

Any advice greatfully received.

Thanks, Alison (sweet-cheeks)

See someone soon. Get them to act on this. It's not normal. How don you know the diabetes is well controlled, does your mother have a tester and test regularly?

She does have a tester but if i'm honest she hasn't used it for a LONG time....she is due to see a diabetic nurse in Jan who has been very helpful so far but I am worried about her...esp as I know how important it is to look after your feet with diabetes.

They did prescribe her something called Amitriptyline tablets and said it was nothing to do with her diabetes....but I'm not sure....they are pretty useless.

Without regular testing of blood glucose your mother will have no idea if her control is well managed, she needs to start testing regularly to determine this but also needs to see her gp again about the pins and needles as it appears the amitriptyline isn't working.

Best wishes

Nigel

Thanks Nigel, I have spoken to her about testing her blood glucose again so will keep on top of her to do that...the tablets she only got yesterday but she is too scared to take them til she has spoken to her diabetic nurse....
