Hi,
I am new to this site and would first and foremost like to say hi to all members here.
i have been reading alot of posts and have found it very helpful and dont feel so anxious anymore.
anyway last year i was prescribed some medication for my skin wich played havoc with my glucose levels and only then was i alerted to my symtoms of high glucose levels eg dry mouth thirst urination frequently ect
prior to this no doctor had ever mentioned my glucose levels and always said that they were "ok!"
i was told to continue with the treatment none the less as he didnt feel it was dangerous at that point
I was on this treatment for 7 months in total
but after a short period of time i started to experience ed quite dramatically and put it down to my anti depressants i was taking at the time,
these symptoms persisted the whole time and on ceasing the anti depressants my sex drive or exitement didnt come back
also i noticed my heart rate is now slower and find it doesnt respond so frantically to excercise or stress anymore,i also feel mentally numb
im scared that my 6 months of increased sugar levels has caused me permanent damage to my cns or my nerves in my body that supply blood to the my organs and the "nether regions!"
can somebody please tell me that this is in fact not possible?

I am still pre diabetic and have controlled my glucose very well but my symptoms are still present even when my sugar levels are in range
can you still have insulin resistance with your glucosese in the normal range?
i havent had a morning erection in about 6 months and find it difficault to maintain one too..could this be related?
I am so worried and really could do with some advice or response!

Cottonmouth,

Hello and welcome to the forum, you've come to the right place.

Regrettably ED can be caused by high BG levels as well as clinical depression, this page gives more information.

I would recommend talking to your GP, it could be that you are a suitable candidate for something like Viagra. I'm sure someone will be able to offer more advice than I can.

Regards, Tubs.

What was the medication, steroidal cream?

It's hard to tell (pun unintended) at this point, depression and especially SSRI antidepressants can have these various effects as can nerve damage and circulatory problems.

Your best bet is to attack them one by one.

Start by getting a handle on your BG, you may find they are going out of range after eating but still normal fasting and at the time your doctor tests

This may help (takes time to affect autonomic neuropathy if that's the problem)

Growing and using muscle is a good treatment for insulin resistance, the alpha lipoic acid may also help with this.

Flirting with cute women half your age may help but you need to know whether you can get away with it first <G>

How long have you been off anti-depressants? They can take a long time to completely clear from the body.

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for the replies

I have tried talking to family members with diabetis but the whole sex conversation is just weird!!!lol

I have been off of my anti depressants for roughly 7 months now!
i am having some more blood tests done to asses my blood to asses wether this is related to diabetis or infact a seperate issue
my sugar level at my latest test was 5 +my gp didnt feel it was high but all i know is it was out of range during my period of medication.(wich was monitored every 2 months with cholesterol and blood glucose test)
he explained it as my body wasnt absorbing the sugar properly so it was higher in the blood?
i have got it under control now with a low gi high omega 3 diet (wich has helped improove energy levels wich is a plus
also am now taking alpha lipoic acid 100mg 3 times a day and also chromium 1st thing in the morning wich is good also
i have always been very active and try to get to the gym every week
i have only checked my levels in the morning shall i check them throughout the day as well?
i am very new to this so please excuse my lack of knowledge
