private GP

Yep, very expensive, about 10 years back I paid over £200 an hour.

It was for a second opinion and nothing to do with diabetes, the second opinion was the same as the original diagnosis. Then I discovered I can ask for a second opinion on the NHS, just choose a doc. and ask if he/she will do it.

bum, was wondering about seeing one, getting prescriptions, that my gp wont do, but guess going to be to much cost.

thanks

I went to a private Nero Surgeon/consultant to see if i could see one faster than NHS for spinal opp
soon as he found out i had no private medical insurance ,Did not want to know
and cost me £300 for 15min all for a 2 hr wait in a dirty private hospital waiting room
Total wast of time and money for nothing

It did take 12 weeks before I was seen by NHS Nero Surgeon
Waiting room was clean and only 10min wait, spent nearly and hour with him ,was interested in my condition best of all it was FREE

Hi Ewan,
I wasted £200 quid on a private consultion with a diabetes speciallist, recommended to me by a my GP at the time- It was a complete waste of time, as he along with the other 2 diabetes consultants I'd seen that year , didn't recognise my probs as being side-effects of Lantus  Just the usual; you're suffering from depression, anxiety & IBS, and the good old catch-all Fibromyalgia of course

If I'm being to nosey, please say, but what it the prescription for that you're own GP is refusing to write you?
Jus :)

Hi ewan,
Without knowing what you want on the NHS that is being denied to you, it is probably a cost thing. Your GP can give you a private prescription that you will have to pay the full price for. You need to look up the drug and it's cost to see if you can afford it.

Well i had this idea, but i have forgotton the main reason but 1) is the fact that my GP that i have just swoped to (becuase my old one was not doing enough prescriptions for test strips, and at this time, i had not joined this forum and did'nt realise that it is a common prob) so changed GPs in hope.

this one has stopped a long standing prescription for 'zopiclone 3.75' i have always had sleep props and they just help, without i cant get to sleep.

i have a number of stresses at mo and this one eclipses all and i believe is cuasing high readings (have given loads of short acting but to little avail)

I was also thinking of getting a private session with my DB consultant, cause i cant get to see him before June and i really want to come off lantus. just looked in my fridge, have a number of old insulins, but all out of date

think i'l forget the idea of private GP, have ordered some meds from the states, but dont know if they will turn up or even if they will be real

cheers for your help (be interested in your opinions on paying to see my NHS diabetic consultant

Try http://www.iddt.org/ with your insulin problems.

Zopiclone is now classed as addictive as are many sleeping meds. Dr's are reluctant to prescribe them as the addiction means that eventually they will not help with sleep but you will still feel the need for them. Ask for a replacement that is not addictive or for psychological help with the sleep problem.

thanks Catherine,

with me i have been on the same dose for years, and they do the job, very occassionaly i take little more but never the ?usual dose of 7.5, wich underlines they work with me and i do not go on needing a larger dose.

before i was prescribed i used to work shifts, and would go 24hrs without sleep then the following night would sleep well, now work 9-5 and they do the job, i have tried loads of other things etc, 'honest'.

It's now widely accepted that Zopiclone causes more problems with tolerance and addiction than Benzodiazapines, and is rarely prescribed for periods longer than what would be considered a short course (2-4 weeks). Stopping taking the drug often results in rebound insomnia which lessens in severity the longer the drug is not used.

Ordering it off the internet is a huge risk to your health and in addition, bringing it into the UK and being in possesion of it without a valid prescriptions are both criminal offences.

thanks viv, all i know is i had major sleep probs before i took it, now on ? low dose no longer have that prob,

what do you think to having a private consultation with db consultant, as i want to change insulin asap

thanks for your input
