It's been a week since I was told. I've had one meeting with my diabetic nurse who said I am type 2 diabetic. I don't know what my initial test was actually for all the doctor said was that he was testing me for diabetes because of the terrible neuropathy I was experiencing. Then I was called in the very next day and told my blood sugars were dangerously high. They were 13.7
I'm going to ask at my next appointment, but should me BG be 8.5 two hours after a meal if I were not diabeticMarie, have you not asked about this initial test yet? Please ring the doctor's receptionist and ask if it was an HbA1c test or just a fasting blood glucose test. You really need to know. I know from other threads that your daily levels are generally in the non-diabetic range, but I also know you have gone very low carb, so would expect your reading to be fairly low. Perhaps you could also try testing before and at 1 hour and 2 hours after a carb meal. Non-diabetics would expect to peak at 1 hour but be well on their way down to base at 2 hours providing there wasn't much fat in the meal. Try that and see. But do find out what your diagnostic test was.

Would it for a non diabetic? I'm sorry for all the questions it's just I was convinced I wasn't diabetic and my diagnosis was wrong.you said you ate "a few chips, hong kong chicken which is like small bits of chicken in a tempura batter with peppers and onions and curry sauce." that is certainly going to push your reading higher than normal?

@catherinecherubMarie,
Until you get your results you do not know if you are pre-diabetic, diabetic or non diabetic.
It is only a few days now until you get your results so it is best to wait and see rather than panicking or being in denial.
You say you need to loose weight and so you really are wasting your time if you are going to eat chinese foods. A diet that is suitable for diabetics is also suitable for non diabetics so really you have nothing to lose, other than weight, if you take the advice from here and the tests come back as negative.
You seem to be under a lot of stress whilst waiting and that will push your readings up. Try and keep calm, accept that you will know soon and relax.
I think if you are testing "2 hours after the meal finished" then you may have missed the peak. Try testing 2 hours after the first mouthful. Testing at 1 hour from the first mouthful will be helpful too if you are concerned.I'm not convinced I am diabetic due to normal BG results all week since I have been testing bt I have been eating very low carb. Anyway this evening my sister and Niece were over so I thought "what the hell" and had a chinese takeaway. I had a few chips, hong kong chicken which is like small bits of chicken in a tempura batter with peppers and onions and curry sauce. I ate half the chicken and curry sauce. Couldn't finish it all.
So I just tested 2 hours after the meal finished and it's my highest ever reading and I've never had a reading like like or even near this since I've been testing myself. It said it's 8.5
Good job I only ate half the meal or god knows what they would have been!
The BG meter still had a smiley face so I guess that's ok still. I just wondered what you guys think? Is that a sort of bad result or still ok? Does that mean I've been kidding myself and I am actually diabetic? I was all keyed up to challenge my diagnosis at my next appointment but now I don't know.

Because I was also diagnosed the day after with liver damage. They produce the same symptoms plus the liver when not working correcYour OP says that you are not convinced that you are diabetic and you were thinking of challenging your diagnosis so what are we supposed to think?
I am not in the business of upsetting people so if I have then apologies.

@catherinecherub
I've been called back, told my results and had my first appointment with the diabetic nurse who told me I am type 2
You were told your blood sugars were dangerously high, that you are type 2. and that your glucose was 13.7.
?
Yes thank you Bluetit1802. I was ready to go in next Monday at my appointment with my diabetic nurse to challenge this initial result because of my liver problems at the time. As I have read a damaged liver gives a lot of the same symptoms as diabetes plus as it's no working BG can be high initially.I understand where you are coming from. You were told your blood sugars were dangerously high, that you are type 2. and that your glucose was 13.7.
However, you believe this glucose level was raised not because you are diabetic but because you have liver problems that may have caused you to have raised levels. You believe you are not diabetic because the readings you are having from your meter tell you otherwise. Is that right?
