Hi All

Im Prediabetic (type 2), and i just wanted to know if anyone else has had repeated infections? in the last month i have had an urine infection and now i have an abcess, my blood sugars are controlled, im not perfect, but they are between 4 and 8, couple of times about 11.
My last HBA1C was 6, and i exercise 5 days a week and lost weight, I eat low carb, low gi.
Im getting really frustrated! the doctor said its just "bad luck", but is it? what is the point of keeping good control if i keep getting infections?

Rant over....

Hi Angela

How awful for you! I think we may be more susceptible to infection - I've had one lurking at the back of my throat for about 3 months now, and I can't shake it! Also, aren't you just coming out of your winter, so you may be a bit run down?

Your profile says, under diet: "low carb, low GI, low fat". Are you sure you're getting enough nourishment? particularly with all that exercise? It's difficult to keep your calories up if you're eating low carb and low fat.

Do you take supplements at all? In your place I'd be taking a good multi-vit/mineral every day, plus extra Vit C - but I'm a sucker for supplements!

I hope you feel better soon.

Hi angela,
Yes I too have had repeated infections with a poor weakened immune system.
Had tests done for vitamin defiencies done and was vitmin D deficient, now on daily meds for this after the injections.
Am still very vunerable and have to resort to wearing surgical gloves when out, it does protect me from other persons germs on door handles, hand rails, chairs, gym apparatus, light switches etc... the list can be endless.
Have had numerous throat and upper respiratory chest infections, am weakened after pneumnia and septiceamea so am truly vunerable to others coughs, colds, bugs, viruses.
It knocks me each time and is getting harder to overcome them.
Have had the flu vaccine and pnuemonia innoculation , take extra vitamins to try and cover myself.
Have to see my endiocrinologist soon to keep eye on my immune system especially as we approach the oncoming winter.
It does worry me as I am vunerable and each time it gets harder to battle it off...
My BS isnt yet under controll despite upping the levemir insulin, eat extremely LOW carb as my digestive system cant handle it well.
DSN sees me every 3 weeks as we are battling to get my diabtetes under control then hopefully my immune system will get that bit stronger .
Sometimes have really felt isolated and alone with keep getting repeated illnesses and infections so easily, its nice to know and hear that I am not the only one.
Hope you're feeling better soon and regain strength - its awful keep being knocked back with repeated infections and having to fight them off daily so draining and each day is a fight to return back to normal routine and lifestyle.
Something we all just take for granted when well and strong.
"My wish" is for you to be well and strong once again .
Mch love and thoughts. Anna.x
