Sausages!!!

Got to,d off by my doc today be side I mentioned eating a low fat sausage at breakfast this morning :O

Are they really that bad for us? Minimal fat and carbs..?
 
hi, i eat loads of sausages, i tend to go for black farmers daughter sausages because i have read on here that they are better carb wise, apparently german sausages are generally good because (apparently again) germany has stricter controls on what goes into theirs so its a higher content of meat, this is all from memory so dont quote me but ill be hoping someone more knowledgable replies so it confirms its ok to carry on eating them, as for your doctor telling you off, pfffft so what?
 
aldis has a nice big pork sausage its Murrays green packet 1.9 carbs per sausage tastes better then chippolatas
 
Thanks guys!, he didn't state what it was that he was not impressed with he just said having that is nota wise choice at all!! I will nip into Aldi later and have a look

Debbie and Andrews 97% pork sausages are a good low carb sausage without many of the added 'Nasties' and Andy's suggestion of Black farmer sausages is a good one,they're a good 'un' too ! :thumbup:
 
Paul where can you get those from? I have just discovered today that My local butcher does slimming world sausages which I believe are just meat, herbs and spices in a skin surely that's go to be acceptable lol

Morrison's, Asda and most big supermarket chains do Debbie & Andrews and The Black Farmer sausage, any sausage with a meat content of 85-90% is a good quality sausage, the cheaper brands use fillers to bulk the sausage up. I find Tesco's Finest Range are good too!
 
What about Quorn sausages? Low fat and low carb......
 
...and don't forget Bratwurst. Less than 1g of carb per (very) large sausage.
 
I grew up on the German sausages so I'm now very fussy about the meat content I go for these days. I bought some very good sausages and a lamb burger from a local (10 miles away) farmer from the farmers market yesterday, I know she doesn't use too much filler in hers. Unfortunately she'd run out of her highest meat content ones.

If you want a meat free alternative, try the Cauldron sausages, tofu based but taste very good and only about 4 g carbs per sausage
 
Asda extra special Cumberland sausages are 1.9 per 100g sausage weighs 75g I usually have 1 with turkey or a chicken breast
 
As others have said the best sausages are those with the highest meat content and those that have the choicest cuts of meat are the top of the tree.

We recently bought some sausages from a butchers in Weymouth who specialise in sausages and they were the best I have ever eaten, they make a staggering range of different sausages for every taste. We shall be going back there in a week or so and will be filling the freezer this time round.

The Sausage Shop in Weymouth, I have never eaten a tastier sausage or seen such a wide selection of choice sausages before or since.




You should have to chew a good sausage and it shouldnt leave a covering of fat stuck to the roof of your mouth when you finish it.
Makes me hungry just looking at this pic, I can hardly wait till our next trip to Dorset :thumbup:
 
I eat sausages about once a fortnight. I look at the labels in Waitros and have found several sorts which would class as low carb. I don't worry about fats.

PS Frankfurters, if you get good ones, are pretty much carb free. Hot dog sausages may not be so good.
 
I love sausages! I tend to have them once a week for breakfast, usually eat Tesco finest sausages, cumberland or lincolnshire an sometimes other flavours such as pork & apple.

We have a George Foreman grill and use that, pricking the sausages to get rid of the little excess fat. I've also been advised it's OK to eat bacon as long as the fat is cut off. Again, this is cooked on our George Foreman grill.

That shop in Weymouth looks fab!
