I’m tearing my hair out with my surgery, after a lot of pushing the Gp asked the diabetes team if it was ok to prescribe semaglutide which they said yes to they said there was no chance of osemphic injections as there’s no supply mounjaro wasn’t even mentioned. So the Gp said she’d be happy to prescribe but just needs to run it by the in-house clinical pharmacist ‍♂️ who has now said I need an appointment with her to “check a few things” no appointments for 2 weeks - so those who have been prescribed the tablets what are they so concerned about? honestly a Gp now has to check with two different sources before they can prescribe something .. anyone with experience of this id appreciate your thoughts

I’m on Rybelsus (semaglutide tablets). I had no trouble getting them but I was switching from Victoza (an injectable form of GLP1 med) which had become unavailable. I was originally prescribed Victoza at my annual diabetes review in 2023 so I guess all necessary checks were done then. I only remember a couple of significant factors were firstly BMI, mine was 34.8 and it was supposed to be over 35 for the prescription. I said I would eat more cream to get up to 35 if they wanted, they laughed and sorted the prescription! The other is a major warning (black box warning) on these meds. They need to know if you or family have had thyroid cancer.
I hope you get this sorted soon, let us know how you get on.

Thanks, have you done ok on them so far .. I’d prefer tablets than injections anyway if they work as well. My bmi is 37.2 just don’t know why they create so many hoops to jump through

Yes I have thanks. No side effects at all. They have reduced my appetite, but there still needs to be a bit of will power exerted. I need to be strict on keeping my portion sizes smaller or I feel uncomfortable if I eat too much.

I should add that both GLP1 meds along with a low carb diet have kept my HbA1cs in the 30s, and I have lost three and a half stone since April 23, so weight loss has been slow but sure.

I started on a month at 3mg then moved up to 7mg. Maybe check with your dr and/or pharmacist if 7mg is correct for you?

I had them earlier this year. 3mg, then 7mg were OK, just felt nauseous for the first week. When I went onto the full dose, 14mg, I had the usual nausea but then had an all over rash. This reaction is rare, but had to stop taking them. I did loose almost a stone though

Hi
Really interesting to read that there are tablets available! I was prescribed Semaglutide a couple of years ago but it made me really ill - terrible gastric pain - too unbearable to continue. I did lose a stone in weight at the time but it has slowly crept back up to 83 kgs. I need to lose at least 15kg my BMI is 35. The GP doesnt seem to be remotley concerned and the Community diabetes team havent contacted me in months. Not sure where to turn to be honest. Do the tablets have side effects?
Thank you for any help!

I'm afraid I had to go through the same procedure. I was on Dapagliflozin for a couple of years then had to come off it but earlier this year the diabetes nurse agreed I could go back. The first time she just prescribed the pills but this time I had to go to the hospital for a 'special' blood test which needs to go straight into the fridge. There's been a change in protocol and they need to check levels of insulin production in the body amongst other things so yes it took nearly 3 weeks before the all clear was given. Good luck.

Hi, I just joined the Ascend-plus trail, I am a type 2 diabetic. interested in any feedback from others on study using Semaglutide, especially positive as I can only see negative feedback which is putting me off

So a week in at 3mg and no side effects and no weight loss which was expected as it’s a starting low dose, however I have noticed my clothes are looser and my tummy seems smaller, anyone experienced this

Glad you got the 3mg starting dose in the end, I didn’t get much if any weight loss on that starting dose either.

Well started the 7mg dose on Sat and I’ve already dropped 5lb this week and haven’t really changed diet that much - no side effects touch wood
