I have to disagree with the current article on the diabetes.co.uk main page. The quote that "...the drugs... are known to be safe..." I would challenge. My wife was prescribed statins even though the GP should have spotted that she had had Hep A and he started her on the max dose (yes, stupid). She suffered very severe liver pains which would no doubt have caused serious liver damage had she continued after the first few days. The muscle pains some experience are, I believe, due to muscle degradation. How can these things be regarded as 'safe'? No, statins are fine for most people including me but they are not generically 'safe' any more than many other drugs
