I have polymyalgia and have been on prednisolone for nearly two years now. But this has given me steroids induced type two diabetes. I have been told what ever my diet is will not improve my readings but I have to take blood prick readings first thing in the morning before I take the steroids and just before an evening meal. I was told that as long as the readings were under 10 consecutively for a week then that was ok. But today the last reading was 9.2 where it is usually below eight . Now worried and just hoping it is ok.

I have polymyalgia and have been on steroids for nearly two years. I have been told changing my diet won't help and have been asked to do a blood pick test before taking my steroids and before my evening meal. If the reading stays below 10 for a week then it is ok but today it reads 9.3 and I am worried as has been currently at 8. Not on any pills for diabetes two which is reading 69.

Hi @Marilyn kay and welcome to the forums.

Just checking, is 69 an hba1c ?

I wouldn't personally pay too much attention to a single reading but understand your concern if you feel your levels are drifting up.

We do have a few members with steroid induced diabetes and there are medication options for them if they need it.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will post soon.

Good luck and once more welcome.

I just wanted to say that one of my friends had this and took insulin temporarily and it went away when he didn't need the steroids . Just wanting to give you hope.
