Hi all,

I've been reading old posts for interesting reads and see if theres anything new i haven't read about before...

and noticed on alot of people's signatures that they know more than just a1c results..

i.e lipids, cholesterol, BP

Should i also be wanting to know these aswell as my a1c?

I'm 22, healthy weight, no other medical issues apart from T1 DB.

Surely my Diabetes team would alert me if something was out of place with these,

also... what are lipids?
 
Lipids:

Group of fatty substances that are stored in the body and can be measured in the blood; they include high-density lipoproteins (HDL; "good cholesterol"),

low-density lipoproteins (LDL; "bad cholesterol"),

and triglycerides, among other compounds.
 

Thanks a few more questions if you wouldnt mind

is this show as a whole figure or broken down to three?

In what measurement is it shown?

and what is a normal range?
 
Lipid panel is broken down as:

................................... Normal Range


Cholesterol.................... (3.4-----5.2) mmol/L

HDL Cholesterol.................(0.8-----1.9) mmol/L

LDL Cholesterol.................(1.4----5.0) mmol/L

Total Cholesterol/ HDL Ratio. ( worked out from the other figures.)

Triglyceride.................... (0.6-----2.0) mmol/L

These are the normal ranges from the lab that I get mine from. Other labs may have different figures.

At your next check-up, ask for these results to be made available to you, my clinic sends them out if requested, usually takes 2-3 weeks after the appointment but worth waiting for!

I certainly will do,

I shall also note down those ranges incase i think anything is out of range
