What was it like?

I was diagnosed last tuesday and from wednesday they put me on 10 units of lantus as basal, and 4 units of novorapid with meals. I was hypoing loads so sunday i reduced to 5 units basal, 2 units of novo with meals. Hypoing alot still (around 6x a day/night) so reduced to 4 units basal, and 0 novorapid with meals. Hypod again this afternoon and again 1 hour ago. Is this normal???
In hospital on diagnosis my sugars were 26mmol, and i had all the antibody tests which came back i'm definitley T1, could it be the heat making me hypo? Last week the weather was cool but since around saturday its been very warm here (about 26degrees in the house)

How long did your honeymoon last (those diagnosed as an adult) i'm 20 yrs old,

Thanks in advance,
Sarah

Yes it could definitely been the heat. I would watch your sugars very closely the next few days when it starts to cool down again. When I'm away on holiday I regularly eat ice cream and have to reduce my ratio as the heat effects me so much!
My honeymoon period lasted almost 3 years, so much so that they even questioned whether I was even diabetic. I would contact your diabetic specialist nurse for advice about your insulin adjustments. It's always going to be a case of trial and error at first, a balance between food and insulin. If you are having to cut out your bolus injections completely, it may be that you aren't eating enough? Talk it through with your DSN :)

Yes, heat can affect insulin requirements. However, whether it's the heat or honeymoon That's causing the hypos is largely immaterial - adjust your insulin doses as you will have been instructed (if BG is too low after meals, reduce bolus insulin; if you have hypos at night or in the morning, reduce basal insulin); your DSN won't be able to tell you much else since that's the algorithm they're using as well.

As for if that's normal... Dunno. What is normal? Do most people experience honeymoon as extreme as yours? Probably now, but it's not unheard of - I had to go from 18u Lantus to 6u, and 1u:10g Humalog to 1u:120g... I.e. One unit would give me a hypo unless I had 120g carbs
