Immediate treatment will most likely consist of injections to correct the deficit, followed by vitamin supplements or further injections (e.g. If you cannot absorb dietary vitamins).

I have a b12 deficiency which consisted of being given 5 (I think) injections over 2 weeks and now I have 1 every 3 months. Without it I feel tired.

Not sure how the other deficiencies are treated though.

Hello, yes know how you feel, I have the same, knew I was very unwell before bloods found the problems, b12 6 injections over 2 weeks to top your levels up fast then one between every 8 to 10 weeks for most people this is for life.
Iron tablets may be given short term, with perhaps further tests......
The tiredness is awfull, I know that out of my 8 weeks I only get about 5 weeks when I can stay awake for a whole day......I got these defiencies before the t2 was diaganosed one year ago, often wonder if there is a link......hope things begin to improve for you soon
Best wishes Kat

Injections will be started .. Probably for all deficiencies.

Whats your diet like? Only that I was diagnosed with pernicious anaemia-b12 deficiency, and after 2 years of injections my new gp stopped the injections. I paid privately to have a mineral and vitamin infusion after that.... However, since loading myself up with literally veg and meat and extra vit d, extra b12 tablets, extra everything really.... I now feel 15 again.. Not 50 and I havent had a b12 injection now for 3 years-and although lowish normal range of b12.. I feel good mentally and physically. However, I think this is more down to the Mega d3 I take.

I felt like **** for years until I started on mega extra of D and B12...

Oh and diet wise.. I have loads of greens... Cabbage, brocolli, leeks, peas and good amounts of carrots as well. This is at least 5 days a week. Only have potatoes occasionally when its jacket spuds and cheese n M&S coleslaw. Have good soups everyday and M&S carrot and orange juice and normally 2 pears and 1/2 dozen walnuts everyday.

I dont eat pasta or rice. Sometimes I have Burgen bread toasted. Any yogurts for pudding.

I think my food although I have always ate veg etc.. This food is helping me enormously too. I rarely eat much meat, about a tablespoon size of chicken if that. I do eat steak occasionally. I do have 2 biscuits n cheese too and loads of coffee.

What do you eat?

It might be that you can never absorb some types of food, further test will show this up....
I eat lots of veggie food, and cant rise my levels without injections, if levels are not maintained they can attack certain parts of the body, which in turn makes you very unwell...
It is good to try and eat well, if if your body can't absorb you need the help.....this is why it's often a life long problem, let us know how you get on......we are all different of course, this is just my experience....Kat

Thank you all so much for replying. I eat meat every day but for some reason green vegetables make me gag ive tried so many times to eat them but every time I put them in my mouth I heave. Is there any other food that would help? I eat carbs daily
Do I do the injections or will it be done at a hospital.

Injections normally done by gp or practice nurse.

Are they going to do any examination of your stomach? This would normally be done to see if there are any underlying causes of concern...certainly after being found with low B12 myself by blood results I had investigations done.

Last year also had extra investigations done that told me I had slow colonic transit, (swallowing 60 shapes and then xrays).. Should be all clear after 2 days. I had 58 still in me after 5 days.
If you are low in essential vitamins and minerals you need to look at reasons why, as do the medical people... But diet and supplements can help as well.

Some carbs like bread and cereals have fortified vitamins added to them,, however most cards are really just adding a full up feeling to our stomachs, and extra lbs.... There's no real goodness in many carb foods to give a healhty benefit to our bodies, although some qty of carbs and fat etc is essential..

Tomatoes, carrots, parsnips, cauliflower, salads, swede, mushrooms, peppers, onions, pears, walnuts, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on wholewheat toast, beetroot is good-beetroot juice was used as a blood builder for patients that were pale and rundown. In Russia and Eastern Europe it is still used to build up resistance and to treat convalescents after a serios illness. 1 carrot can give you all the vitamin A you need for an entire day.
Kiwifruit is also good as its high in potassium but low in sodium..and almost twice as much vitamin c than an orange. Green peppers will give over 100mg of vitamin c .. Over 3 times the daily RDA- best eaten raw in salads.

It is a vicious circle in some ways because people who suffer from tiredness often lack the energy for exercise.... Without which the bodys ansorption of iron and other vital minersls is poor, leading to even less energy.

If greens are not ate, or fruit n veg are linited in your diet then you may wish to consider supplements.

Hi Sarah, I love using veg for soups, makes it easier to eat, some greens our bodies just don't turn into b12 no matter how much we eat.....
Hope you start your b12 soon, there are tablets but they takes ages to get Into your blood stream, I have some as a back up from gp, in case I am ever late with my injection....b12 patches are new I have read about them, but injections seem to work the best, afraid they do sting just for a few seconds, but very worth it.....
