An interesting article here from "Trail Runner" magazine claiming that by training consistently (over weeks) and preferably adding in some intensity, we can increase the volume of our blood and become faster runners (or, presumably, cyclists, swimmers etc.) It seems to me that exercise, blood volume, increasing the volume would dilute the circulating glucose, but this is not mentioned in the article.
 
actually we can also increase blood volume when moving from a colder area of the planet to a warmer climate after 14-30 days in the heat most people do adapt by producing around / up to 100ml more blood to cool down one's brain when being in a hot climate, maybe it is the same phenomenon going on when running needing more blood to cool ones brain down again..
