Hi,
I was diagnosed about 4 and a half years ago and for the first time since then finding myself organising a holiday ( :D yes very excited) however I'm confused by the insurance, does type 2 mean I need the special pre existing condition insurance?

You MUST disclose everything to your travel insurance people, because if you don't and need to make a claim, they can refuse to pay out. If they threaten to load your insurance, check with Diabetes UK, they can help find you a policy. they helped me get a reasonably priced one for the USA!
It's also worth checking with your bqank. We have travel insurance with our bank account.

Disclose your type 2 diabetes to an insurance company. If they intend to charge you more, then try an alternative company. Diabetes UK does cover lots of people, but is not always the cheapest option. Make sure that any policy also covers activities you intend to do eg some don't cover trekking above 2000m, SCUBA diving, snorkling, scooter riding etc.

You should also be aware that medications that can be bought over the counter in the UK are controlled substances in some places. My work trips to Dubai earlier this year were an education. I needed to carry all kinds of stuff with me as well as the prescriptions for my meds to prove what they were. This was made all the more interesting by being in the ASCEND medical trial which has two tablets a day but you're not told if they're the Aspirin & Omega3 oils or placebo. So I had to contact them and get details on everything, just in case! My BG meter was opened at security (Both ends) to make sure it wasn't something nasty too!
