Please can you advise as my dad has got alzeinhers and is also Type 2 diabetes but today he refused to take his Glizazide 40mg tablet then eventually took it at 1.30pm and took the night one the same time. Can anyone advise what I should do Thanks Ian Jenkins
Hi
@William Kerry Jenkins & welcome to the forum
We can’t give medical advise or comment on what to do regarding taking too much medication as we aren’t medically trained. The best thing to do in this situation is contact his GP or even better the NHS line on 111, they will triage you and give you the best advice what to do regarding your dad.
In the meantime as Gliclizide can cause hypos, keep a close eye on your dad and if he will let you test his blood sugars do so on a regular basis to make sure he isn’t going too low (4 or under)
I can appreciate how hard it is with someone with Alzheimer’s to comply but do your best, if his blood sugars drop below 4 then give him some fast acting carbs like orange juice or a couple of sweets or a biscuit and then test again after 15 minutes, then maybe if he would eat it a sandwich or some slower acting carbs to keep his numbers above 4 until you’ve spoken to someone who can help you
If he becomes unwell or you are at all worried about him in your shoes I would contact 111 or your GP again, or if you are very worried call for an ambulance
Let us know how he gets on
