If you don't mind me asking, how much creon have you been prescribed to take?

Hello there and thank you for your response. I take 25,000 unit strength and generally with each meal 5 capsules or less if the meal is small. I take one literally just before the meal and then whilst I eat I pop a capsule in. I was told by the dietician that I should think how the Pancreas would be operating each time I take a mouthful of food.
It’s a real conundrum and the specialists are a little dumbfounded by the situation but I have been told it’s not uncommon as some times the human body can reject what it is been given.?

Wow! That is a much higher dose than what I need to take. I take a single 25,000 Creon capsule with meal and a single 10,000 Creon capsule with snacks. If I'm eating something contains a lot of fat, I take 2 capsules instead of 1. I thought it might be not enough creon for the amount you're eating that could be causing the malabsorption, but I guess not.

I just did a quick search online and the other 2 reasons why you might have malabsorption happening is either bacterial overgrowth, where bacteria in the small intestine is fermenting carbohydrates that aren't absorbed and leads to gas pain and bloating, or it's neuropathy that can cause diarrhea and steatorrhea. So it could be PEI which you're already taking CREON for and also a bacterial overgrowth and/or neuropathy.

I would suggest asking your diabetes doctor to check for a possible bacterial overgrowth, specifically in your small intestine (SIBO) and also get checked for neuropathy, specifically autonomic neuropathy.

Thank you so very much for coming back to me as I am more than a little concerned, mainly because of the weight loss.
Thank you also for your suggestion on the test within the small intestine and you are spot on that can be a contributing factor. To my dismay I had the tests done in that area just before Christmas. It was not the nicest test to have either. It was done by CT which I have no problem with, it was the fluids I had to consume before the scan which could have a purging effect within the bowel. I have to say because of my issues I have no problems in that department in-fact quite the opposite !
The results came back via an online system with the hospital so I am yet to speak to the hepatologist but I’m thinking it may be one of those situations where my situation has stretched the boundaries of knowledge to date.
The specialists are wonderful and I’m hopeful they will get there at some point. At present my Wife and my life revolves around my medical issues and governs where it where not we can go with confidence.

The autonomic neuropathy is something that hasn’t been looked at in relation to this so I most certainly will take your advice and question the Diabetic and Endocrine team.

Thank you again for being so helpful and knowledgeable on this subject. If I get a result I will let you know if I may within this thread.

Thank you and God bless
