Hi everyone. I posted a thread a few weeks ago regarding Metformin & Pregnancy. Well, it turns out that I didn't take it in the end and I am now on Insulin injections which I am happier with as its natural. I started off at 4 units and a strict diet. I have since seen the Dietician and Specialist at the hospital and every day for the last few weeks, I have listed daily what I'd eaten and drank which they were impressed with lol. Anyway, the dietician said my diet was really good and she didn't understand why my sugar levels are still high.

Today, I heard from my Diabetic Midwife and they have increased it again to 10 units 3 times a day just before meals and I have to test my sugars an hour after eating.

I must admit though I feel really down about it as I haven't put any weight on in the last two weeks but baby is growing perfectly fine. I feel hungry all the time too. Have you any ideas what I can do. I keep having hypos too.

Thanks Jane

Hi Jane

Sorry to hear you are struggling. It is hard to keep the bg's in range without going too high or too low. I've been advised to eat a little something, around 15g of carbs, around 1-2 hours before my next meal, to avoid the hypo. But not sure how you are treating your diabetes, are you on a basal-bolus regime? Don't want to give you the wrong advice!

PS also if you are hungry can you go for low carb snacks that won't impact your bg's ? eg meat, cheese, nuts. Not the easiest to plan snacks with but not impossible :D

Soory, got to be quick, but if you aren't carb counting, now is a good time to start. Also, (from personal experience) try you absolute best to control your diabetes, but please don't beat yourself up if your results are not perfect. It sounds like you are getting help from the professionals, so definaetly use them to guide you
