Hi all does anyone find they produce a lot of urine at night/meant to be asleep? Like two litres plus?
I find i'm going two - four times most nights and 2 maybe 4 litres a night and often within the five hours i get till wide awake! as my sleep is dire as did get my Metformin changed to modified release which helped a fair bit with going to sleep.
But it's staying a sleep is an issue so the day is often a day of fragmented sleeping as get really tired some day's(Fibromyalgia pokes it's head up here!).

I did speak about it with person at UCLH Urology as had the botox injections to calm bladder! To my Surprise "Not" she said ho no no no the body stops producing Urine wen your a sleep (Not sure what/where she learn't her supposed trade at/in? Maybe McDonalds? As she has spouted that without any thought of issues we have with likes of Diabetes as much is fluid draining back from tissues in the body which ok isn't strictly Urine but is still output.

The keep having to go in the night is effecting my daytimes a lot as get so tired during the day quickly which means you don't want to do things/feel cold/are slow/make mistakes and so on.
Sort of get around 5 hours then awake for often ages as hot so if havent kick of bed clothes like last night had windows wide open and half under duvet then read the news/play some rounds of Mahjong Remixed on my phone(Free to play)for a few hours then maybe drop off or get up but then later in morning/afternoon go back to bed.
But it don't help with type 2/fitness/weight loss etc as we all know when tired you often feel more hungry or eat the wrong things etc?

Been in the process of trying to get an NHS personal budget to buy some washable pads etc so can then not worry about it till when ready to get up!.
But trying to sort that out is a total nightmare as it say's it's there but when ask no one knows anything about it as it's like some Dark Art/Magic!.

For those unaware for those that are Autistic/Asperger's it has an effect on the Bladder along with the digestive system.

What is your blood glucose like usually?
If you're running high often, that would mean more peeing, but if you usually have healthy numbers it's worth looking into other causes.

Diet drinks - the artificial sweeteners taste vile.
Having to forswear foods I have loved all my life.
Trying to find low carb meals when eating out.
I assume that you are drinking a lot? Like 2-4 litres in the afternoon/evening?

Most people have, at a minimum, a first thing in the morning pee.
Some of us have to get up at least once in the night.

Also, how much are you producing during the day?

I don't go that much in morning to be honest.
During the day times it varies on amount and i do drink plenty of TEA! mostly.
I'm never thirsty though like many but do like the taste of a decent cup of tea.

I was just trying to do the sums. :)
If you are producing 2+ litres over night it must be coming from somewhere, most likely your fluid intake during the day.

A passing thought; how quickly do your kidneys process fluids?
That is, if you drink a cup of tea, for example, how long is it before that has gone through your kidneys and into your bladder?

I have what I term "slow kidneys" - that is I can drink a pint of water and then it will be a couple of hours before it works its way through.
I know people who have a drink, then need to pee almost immediately, which I would regards as "fast kidneys".

If your kidneys are slow to process fluids that you drink, that could explain the peeing all night but not much in the morning.
In which case the answer might be to avoid drinking during the evening.
That assumes, of course, that you drink in the evening.

Best of luck and let us know how you get on.

Have you considered using a glucose meter to test at home to see the effects of different meals?
With your hba1c at 55 mmol/mol, your average blood glucose is likely close to 9 mmo/l.
But if this is significantly higher at night, this could be the cause of needing to pee a lot.
It could have something to do with your eveing meal, or the timing of medication if you're on medication.
Doing some testing could rule this out, or in.

Do your ankles/legs swell during the evening? Happens to a lot of people as they get older. It is normal that when you lie down, your body finds it easier to draw water from your blood than when you are standing/sitting/walking, and so is accumulating urine more efficiently once you go to bed. So may be normal for you now as distinct from normal for you when younger.

Hi
My husband had this, he drinks diet coke only, about 6 cans a day, he isn't a diabetic but his father was late onset so he checks his blood occasionally, he used to eat large quantities of grapes, 1k a day all in the evening. His bloods were fine but he decided to cut out the grapes anyway and this excessive urination at night has stopped. Dont know if this helps but it might not be liquids but a food source. If you find out what it is please let me know. Good luck.

I find that drinking much at all later in the day will ensure that I need to be up more in the night. I always get up at leas once because I have an atonic bladder and it only half empties at best. (Autonomic neuropathy to blame there after fifty years on insulin.) I also find that I must eat very little in the evening if I want to keep my blood sugar at a normal level overnight. A larger meal will always give me high overnight sugars that will increase urine production. Typically I might just graze on a handful of nuts or something similar and that helps me maintain very good control. The other consideration is that tea is actually a diuretic so drinking a lot of it will make you pee more. I hope you can find a way to relieve or at least accommodate this problem as it is clearly having a big impact on your life. I wish you the best of luck.

Hi. I too have to pee at night. It's partly to do with being on medication for water retention and for an enlarged prostate. It would be worth you getting your prostate checked as peeing at night is a classic symptom.

I too have an enlarged but not cancerous prostate which makes me pee at night. Every 3 hours or so but I must sleep walk to the loo as I fall straight back to sleep.

I too get up to pee 3 - 4 times a night. I'm female so definitely not my prostate!
