Hi all. I am type 2 which is managed by medication. Starting just under 3 weeks ago I started recording weight loss. I have lost about 5kg now without any changes to routine or diet. On top of that, my GP picked up ketones in my pee while she was looking at something else. I got some KetoStix to keep an eye on this and saw the diabetes nurse about it. She reckoned it was a one-off and did a blood ketone test which came in at 0.3mmol/L. I decided to buy a dual testing meter to keep an eye on things. My blood glucose is averaging 5.7mmol/L, but I am now recording blood ketones of 2.0mmol/L and pee ketones of 8mmol/L. I have made an appointment to see the nurse - 10 days time is the soonest appointment. Any advice or experience of same would be most comforting.

Hi @RoyBen , welcome to the forum.
What medication are you on?
Do you follow a low carb way of eating?

Hi @RoyBen What are you eating? That combination of BG and Ketone readings (if typical) would suggest your are eating a Keto or low carb diet - which is what many Type 2 diabetics use to put their Diabetes into remission without need of medication.

Hi all. Thanks for the replies. I am now on Metformin 500mg twice a day and Empagliflozin 10mg once per day. I used to be on Alogliptin too, but the Diabetes Nurse stopped that. The exact reason why is known only to her! Anyway, I had been thinking it might be my diet. I don't eat much in the way of carbs as they play havoc with my Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Would a low carb diet also give me stomach pain/cramps too?
