I have but I didn't use an option to see relatives - I don't think the one I used did that.

It is supposed to lower the GI of the food by slowing down gastric emptying - either used as a condiment or taken as some kind of dose - but if you take Lansoprazole, which reduces the amount of stomach acid produced to help with acid reflux it's probably best to be on the safe side and check with your GP (sorry, I know that's not easy). Google searches suggest not even using vinegar as a condiment if you take Lansoprazole

I take Esomeprazole - not sure why but I have been prescribed it for years. I did ask the consultant pharmacist about 3 years ago why I am taking it. He said he didn't know but try not taking it to see what happens. Serious pain where my gall bladder used to be is what happens. So I still take it.

Breakfast: some of the curry from yesterday with a fried egg on top. The last cracker and a couple of broken bits at the bottom of the packet with some butter. Tea.

2nd meal will be lamb chops with some ginger and lemon butter and a little salad.

I never used to suffer from acid reflux but I have done recently - usually when I am asleep in the chair and I wake up choking and have to struggle to control my breathing. Not pleasant but it seems to be a new development - perhaps connected to the rest of gastro-intestinal problems. I have a feeling that I was prescribed the Esomeprazole donkey's years ago when I had had my gall bladder removed, so somewhere there may have been the reason for me taking it. Not sure that the reason is still valid, but there's no information about it in my file, apparently.

End of the 3rd day without coffee and so far, so good. Bowel seems to have calmed down a bit. Neil was telling me that when he used to drink instant coffee, he had similar issues but they sorted themselves out when he switched to ground coffee. If the improvement continues, I might try brewing ground coffee and see what happens. Maybe I'm more like Neil than I knew, or he is more like me.

Breakfast: Fried eggs with pancakes. Tea & tea & tea ....

2nd meal will be smoked mackerel salad.

I made a slow cooker full of minced beef stew yesterday, and had one portion of it for tea - minced beef, onions, bayleaves from the garden, carrots from the garden, celeriac from the supermarket, and some old soft tiny potatoes from the back of the fridge. I used a savoury mince packet sauce and some beef stock with it and added some celery salt and onion salt. It's really tasty. I'll have it with some kale or runner beans for greens.

Four more portions for tea this week - it keeps very well for a week in the fridge so if I don't fancy it one night I can have something else.

Still haven't tackled the garden jobs! Luckily this week looks good all the way so hopefully I'll shake off the lazyness and get out there soon.

Breakfast was some of the spiced turkey from a day or so ago with some yoghurt on top.

BG stayed too high for comfort despite largish dose of insulin. 2 hours later it was 11.4. I debated with myself whether a correction dose would be a good idea but I was going for a dental appointment and didn't want to find myself in a hypo situation. Just as well I didn't take it - by the time I got home it was 6.4. Took 31/2 hours for it to come down.

2nd meal will be chicken chowder. I know chowder is really supposed to be fish, but Neil couldn't get me any fish this week, other than smoked mackerel (which my tum didn't like very much) so it will be chicken.

I think it's into the 5th day now since I had coffee and so far, so good. Insides seem to have settled down pretty well, and no Loperamide needed. Pity, I much prefer coffee to tea.

Chicken chowder sounds delish @Annb! Hmm I wonder if I should try ditching coffee for a few days - I don't want to but if it helps with the digestive issues it would be worth it. Let me know how the experiment goes!

Still no garden jobs done apart from swearing at caterpillars as I move them off my brassicas and onto nasturtiums. I had a grand total of 2 runner beans today, they definitely are finishing now the temperatures are lower.

I was annoyed with myself for being lazy so I made a list of things I wanted to do today, just little things but at least I was off my bottom and moving around. I made bread, did a couple of loads of washing, sorted out the bird food storage, put the things that stay in the car back in the car after its service (which was weeks ago!) and sorted out some cardboard for garden mulch and composting. It was very satisfying to tick things off the list!

I'm also doing a little decluttering as I go now - the spare room of doom needs clearing out so I can start work on the box room, and get around to decorating and proper storage upstairs. I can't believe I've lived in this house for nearly 30 years now, and still not really got it into shape. I still can't make myself do a major blitz like I used to in younger days, I get exhausted too quickly, but picking up a box or a bag of stuff and making decisions bit by it, one or two things at a time, is slowly making a difference.

The decisions don't feel too difficult any more, I have my memories and don't really need the physical things hanging around. Some things just make me feel sad, so they need to go. Some things are just detritus from phases in life that have passed and again, I don't need the memorabilia.

I'm having a day out and lunch with a friend tomorrow so will be eating some unmentionable things!

Breakfast was something unhealthy and tea will be another portion of the lovely stew, with some runner beans.

Breakfast: the last of the turkey with a couple of crackers broken into the mix.

BG still too high so I've decided to go back onto the Metformin to see if that helps to keep it on an even keel. Took one with the rest of my pills this morning. BG coming down from 11.4 before breakfast. Currently at 8.9. Hoping that it does the trick and doesn't get my inner self irritated again.

More of the chicken for 2nd meal.

Had a lovely day, not low carb but I didn't overeat so that's a small victory. I'm fully intending to get into the garden tomorrow!

Good morning.
Breakfast today a very restrained thirty g of Wheat Shreds and forty-four g of banana: units of Fiasp.
Packing later, and going to the station to get a ticket as I’m off to see younger daughter and family tomorrow. Excited.

Breakfast: avocado on a couple of Jacob's crackers. Tea.
Off to the Health Centre to get my legs bandaged and for blood tests - except the blood tests didn't happen. The GP failed, yet again, to request the nurse to do it. Talked to the Receptionist and she promised to ask the GP to do it for next week.
Hungry when we got back so I had the remaining chicken chowder. That was meant to be for later, so may have a third meal today.

So, I'm back onto the Metformin and right off of the coffee. B G is coming back under control and inner workings have swung right back in the opposite direction - too far, in fact, but much better than it was. That's about a week with no coffee. I will try again some time, and see what happens. First, though, I will try ground chicory root and see how I get on with that.

I did nave more food yesterday - 2 eggs scrambled.

Today: breakfast was 2 dry fried eggs on top of 2 pancakes - not low carb but BG hasn't reacted badly so far.

2nd meal will be fried haddock with some French style peas.

I had eggs and some bacon bits for breakfast with a slice of home made toasted bread, and still have a couple of portions of minced beef stew so that will be for tea.

I'm sitting here looking at the garden and promising myself I will get going today... apart from the major jobs there are so many little ones that I get distracted too easily and end up pottering about instead of really getting anything completed. Ah well, it's all good therapy!

My Libre reader has given up the ghost. I put a new sensor on yesterday and the reader told me that either I hadn't applied it properly or it wasn't working, so replace it with another sensor. I did that and it told me the same thing. The reader has been acting a bit strangely for a few weeks and I guess this is just a continuation of whatever its issue is. I'll have to try to phone Abbott today.

I didn't get into the garden yesterday but today I am doing well, at least the grass will be cut.

Breakfast was home made crustless quiche, and tea will be the last portion of slow cooker stew with runner beans.

Actually, I changed the 2nd meal to pork chop with a serving of mushroom, onion, celery and fennel. Very good it was too. I'm keeping the peas for another piece of haddock, maybe tomorrow.

"Abbott" think the Libre problem is with 2 sensors failing one after the other, not the reader, so they are sending out 2 replacement sensors, when they get some in. Apparently, there is a shortage of them, so it may take a while.

I got the grass all cut, just need to trim around the raised beds and garden tables (with containers on) with the strimmer at some point. I got a lot of materials added to the compost heap, made up a wheelbarrow full of potting compost, and planted a trough of garlic - this one's just an experiment with shop bought garlic to see what happens.

My wormeries are doing really well, I've put some of the worms into the compost heap as well. I took the last of the peas off and had a lovely snack of those while waiting for my tea to heat up. I've had my tea now and I'm about to get in the shower, then maybe an early night - my muscles are aching!

Breakfast was a flat chaffley pancake with some salad and a cold sausage. Odd mixture but it was fine. I was hoping the chaffle mixture would produce something like a wrap, but it didn't. Tea.

On my third cup of tea at the moment.

2nd meal: there's still some pork with mushrooms etc left from yesterday. I might have that. Probably will - least effort involved, but there is still the haddock and some chicken thighs to make into something. At the moment, chicken is more inviting to me. Plenty of time to make up my mind.
