What is thinking behind Community Diabetes Teams?

I've been having some awful problems with my team, and apart from one lovely nurse who I rarely see, I feel seeing them is not helping me in the least. I agree a plan with my GP which he likes to give a few months to kick in, so we can see if it is doing anything long term with my blood sugars. Yesterday, the community nurse said it wasn't right and told me to stop Victoza I had to use insulin. This was very galling as I had literally the day before started a brand new pen of Victoza which had to be thrown away.

Can I refuse to see the community team again, or will I be penalised for refusing to deal with them? Or can I ask to deal with just one person in future?

Did you ask why you had to stop Victoza? Perhaps the recent documentary on the UK TV about Victoza and a couple of other brands of IIRC GLP1 based medications were discussed at length had something to do with it? There are some concerns in the USA raised with the drugs agency over there and more recently here in Europe, these GLP1 (I think that is right) meds were flagged as 'being watched'. Without going into details (do some research) I have picked most of that up from the TV programme and made one or two searches on the internet. Team environments tend to promote dialogue, this in turn stimulates team members to research/discuss treatments etc which in turn often leads to better control. It is interesting here in this area of Spain (quite a few pensioners I know here have type 2) that until recently they were using GLP1 treatments and now have gone back to insulin.

Does your team know something that your doctor (a GP who does not specialise in diabetes control?) does not.

I was told that Victoza and insulin together is not recommended. I spoke to my GP about it on Friday and he said I can ignore any phone consultations and just attend the clinics. He agreed with me the attitude was poor and advised that if the nurse spoke like that to me again I was to tell her it was not acceptable and that if she carries on I will report her to her boss. She is only a trainee from what I can gather, so why she is let loose in a clinic with no supervision is beyond me.

I'm still cross at the way this was handled, but if insulin helps me get my blood sugars down then it will be worth it. Although my diet is going out of the window, I am getting such an appetite already you would not believe it.
