What is Type 1.5?

Hi,

I've just joined this group, but when signing up, I was asked which type of diabetes I have, Type 1, Type 2 or Type 1.5

I've never heard of Type 1.5 before term before. I'm guessing that could be what I have, but the search engine on this group wasn't much help looking for any posts about type 1.5:

According to one definition I found:

• Type 1 diabetes occurs when your immune system destroys the beta cells in the pancreas that create insulin. As a result, the body makes very little or no insulin of its own. People with type 1 diabetes must take insulin daily. Type 1 diabetes is sometimes called juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes.
  
  Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not make enough insulin, or the body cannot properly use the insulin it does create. Eventually, the pancreas may stop producing insulin altogether. Type 2 diabetes can affect people at any age. In both men and women, the more overweight an individual is, the greater the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Is there a definition anywhere of Type 1.5?

As for me, I was diagnosed 24 years ago, when I was about 28, when a bit overweight (5ft 8 - 12 St), and initially treated by diet and tablets, but after a few years, had to go on to insulin, and I'm now considerably more overweight (still 5ft 8, but now 18st 5lb, although have been up to 21+), and about to start on Byetta, as recommended by my hospital consultant.
