Hi all,

I am going to advise that this thread is not for the faint-hearted. If you feel you can post your morning BS then feel free but do not lets turn this into members feeling bad because they dont achieve similar figures and not "having a go" because we all work at different levels and what works for you may not work for someone else.

PLEASE remember that it is about just keeping in touch...... not comparing!

Josie

12 today but maybe lower tomorrow, don't give up. I like this forum because I can see how some others are struggling and finding it difficult to fathom the ups and downs of their readings. Obviously there is some element of comparision and I often wonder what it is that others are doing to achieve the low readings whereas my own readings often seem to be purely random numbers, especially the double figure ones.
I can get high readings just eating like a caterpillar for a few days and find it baffling at times. However there is good advice to be had here and the knowledge that we are all in the same situation fighting the same disease in our own way. Keep at it and don't despair. :)

When do you log that first reading? @Puddyhuston.

Most of us on this FBG thread for diabetes of all types (and the parallel thread for type 2s) check our BG levels as soon as we wake first thing in the morning.

BG numbers rise once we start to move around. That's normal and to be expected. Testing as we wake makes the conditions prior to the check as close to identical as possible and the result provides a useful benchmark for day to day comparison.

I am afraid i eat chips too often
Please be aware (you probably are) that potato is mostly starch, so isn't a good choice for those of us coping with diabetes. A medium, 5 ounce spud with the skin contains about 24 grams of carbohydrate.

Diabetes is a very individual disorder and we're all different, but my digestive system does not handle potato well, so I take the easy route and, like @Omar51, avoid it completely.

It's impossible to eradicate carbs from meals completely @Puddyhuston even if total abstinence were thought desirable. Believe it or not, a lettuce leaf contains some carbohydrate!

Keeping BGs in check is a daily challenge I know, but well worth the effort and it does get easier. When diagnosed in 2003 with a finger prick reading >18mmol/l, my HbA1c result was 110 mmols/mol. Latest HbA1c in October 2023 was 35 mmols/mol.

It helps to focus on the many delicious foods we can safely eat and not dwell too much on those few high carb 'goodies' that are harmful.

Logging my results here, it must be said, helps to keep me incentivised. If you're in the habit of low-carbing, then barring illness or injury, your FBG levels will stabilise, given time. If I can do it, I know you can too.

Morning All mia for few days so yesterday was 6.7 (happy) today 7.5 (not so). @Puddyhuston don’t worry about any competition here there isn’t any because we are all individuals with individual ranges we aim for. The great thing is we all cheer or commiserate because we understand this is hard. Have you considered chips once a week treat or a bigger portion of protein on the plate (chicken, meat, etc ) instead). Have a great Sunday everyone.
