I have been on lchf diet (but not too high fat cos I need to lose a lot of weight) for 3 weeks. My numbers have come down from in the 14s to between 6.5 and 7.8. I am eating no starchy carbs. Will my numbers come down further or will I need to cut down even more though I don't know how. I was diagnosed 5 years ago but have only just worked through the denial, something I am very ashamed of. Hope someone can help. Cheers.

Hi comfort, so we'll done on getting the numbers lower. I'm waiting for mine to go lower too. If we keep eating the right things, as you are, hopefully they will. Several people posted back when I asked similar question that takes a while for body and our hormones to adjust. Take care.

Thanks for the reply. What are your numbers like now daffodils

To get levels lower you will prob need to adjust insulin a very small amount more...

If you want a good book on fats/proteins and recipes and meal plans and stuff Zana Morris & Helen Foster have written a brilluant book called the hugh fat diet...

Although not especially for diabetics, it gives a good balanced way to really lower carbs.. Book is current £3.85 at Amazon... Truly good..

Have you got half unit pens? I don't know your doses but sometimes just wanting to get into 5 and 6's a full unit change can be too much

Well done by the way!!

Hi Donnelly. Not on insulin. Not on anything at moment waiting to go to docs for result of blood test. Doing it by diet at moment. Thanks for replying. Info on books very useful. X

Hi, they are coming down. Ha 53 when first diagnosed in December. Average bs now about 6.5 so way to go but better! Not quite sure how reliable the codefree metre I am using is. First ha test after diagnosis in April so will be interesting to see what that come out at. Hoping to avoid metformin if I ca, but will wait and see!

Only so much you can do with diet only. You have made very good progress so far. Unsure of your current health but any increase in exercise will certainly improve levels. Even just a short walk can help.

There is a very good chance they will come down farther as you lose more weight. Three weeks is not a long time and you've already seen a dramatic decrease, so expect the decrease to continue, but at a slower rate.

I wouldn't restrict your total calories too much as this will cause your body to try to conserve energy thinking that you are starving. What works for me is getting total digestible carbs below 50g per day. If you don't eat sugar, grains, starchy veg, or rice, then you will likely be below 50g a day with no need to count. Also, avoid processed factory food (the stuff with lots of unpronounceable ingredients) and processed veg oil.

Exercise is a good idea. Adding a bit of muscle mass and improving your cardio fitness will help a bit.

No need to be ashamed. Many of us were in the same boat, especially given the dietary advice (low fat, lots of carbs) given to type 2 diabetics by the health care system.

Codefree is as good as any, which isn't perfect but enough to give you an idea over time. Your BS numbers are coming down nicely, well done. Give us a rundown on your daily meals and I'm sure we can find ways of reducing the BS numbers further.

Hi, thanks.

Breakfast 2 eggs, 2 Finn crisps, half tomatoe

Lunch chicken and leaf salad, berries

Supper fisg, green vegetables

Mid morning and afternoon snacks, few nuts or yoghurt and berries, or vegetable sticks

Odd baby bel here and there, olives and gherkins!,

Walking about 30 mins most work days!

Could go lower on carb front but also trying to find a way of eating that will be sustainable !, have to be a bit careful of how much fat I eat, no gallbladder!,

Looks pretty good. Early days yet so keep up the good work and keep testing. Don't forget to wash hands & dry well before each test. Also drink plenty, preferably water.
I believe I read someone on this forum can tolerate fat despite lack of a gall bladder, so maybe more info about that.

Thanks so much, very good thought re water, drink lots of tea but hardly any water on its own.

All good. One cuppa with milk -- ok Five cuppas with milk -- careful!

It would be hard to go much lower with the carbs!
It seems you were right about the exercise. I 've been out walking for an hour and a half. Just had a pre meal reading of 5.3. I know it's only a one off but it does give me hope. Thanks for the advice.
