Well, I'm pleased to say you are in for a nice surprise :)

Don't get me wrong, it's a bit odd, but you will soon recover. Minutes till the bright lights fade, hours till you feel less odd. It' not a painful process, just strange. Depending on the strength of laser they use you might want to lie down in a darkend room for a while, but even then, you'd be right as rain for work the next day.

I've had 3 lots of laser. The first was pretty strong and was done over 3 sessions. Only trouble I had at work was someone in HR saying to my boss "You know, she is taking every 3rd Tuesday off, you might want to have a word..."

Good luck with the job hunting.

Hello
I had laser to both eyes 14 yrs ago. It wasn't an op as such as like eye screening but longer and brighter!
If things are how they were then, you sit in the chair, have some numbing drops to the eye, then they place a contact lens type thing over the eye which the doctor holds to direct the lens and keep your eye wide open.

its only painfull on the outer edges of the area being treated, but was still ok. After the treatment I had a red ring around my iris for a day or so and was effected by glare alot, but that reduced over a few days. I was left with a bad headache for a little while, but I do suffer from migraines, so maybe it was just coincidence.

Try not to worry too much about the 'op' and think how it is going to help you in the long run, then find work and enjoy life.

Hiya. I have had lots and lots of laser as in every 2- 4weeks for 6months. This was during pregnancy and it was a while ago now. Its not the nicest of things and i used to get sore heads after it too. A dark room and some paracetamol worked for me. The next day i ws always fine for work. Thankfully this all settled when i had the baby(6wks early because of this) i still go for check every 8mths now. I am so gratefull to the docs as i would most definately be blind if it was not for them. Please dont worry about it. These doctors are fabulous in what they do.

This is good news! I had read elsewhere that it would be 2-3 week before returning to light work and up to 3 months for any work involving heavy lifting. So this isn't the case? Is there anything that needs to be avoided post op?

I was advised when my retinopathy was active not to do any heavy or repeated lifting where it was strenuous.

On the day of the laser surgery your eyes can be sore and blurry for several hours afterwards, if after the first few sessions your eyes become to sore the Opthamologist can administer anesthetic drops which help with the discomfort, it's better that you don't go into work on the day of the surgery especially if your job involves working with machinery etc.

TBH it never effected my work and when I had laser surgery as I took the time off as holidays.

Take a pair of sunglasses with you for when you come out after the surgery, the eyes afterwards are really sensitive to light and the glare outside can be really uncomfortable.

Good luck and hope it goes well on Thursday!!!

Thank you both. :D
Sunglasses at the ready for this afternoon. It's a dull, rainy day here too, lol. 8)

Made it through the laser yesterday, though the specialist stopped it a little early as he could see I was in pain with it from the get go. (Wimp that I am!) Eyesight still quite blurred today and needing sunglasses (but it's a sunny day here anyway). Heading out tonight so put some makeup on. You could have scraped me off the ceiling when I when to put some eyeshadow on with the brush, OUCH! Didn't realise the eye would be so sensitive to the touch. Gonna be fun washing it off later on!

I'm due back in 2 weeks for the next round.

I had laser treatment 2 years ago, it was on a Friday, so I had the weekend before working, however, I could have easily returned to work the following day.
I felt uncomfortable for the Friday, slight headache etc. but there was no lasting discomfort and certainly nothing that lasted more than a few hours. :)

No your not a wimp as the laser surgery can be uncomfortable, when you next have the surgery take some pain killers an hour before, my Ophthalmologist said it was fine to do so if it made the procedure more comfortable.

It def took me till last night/today to feel someway back towards normal. My eye was weeping loads this morning, but it's calmed down as the day has gone on, apart from visual disturbance to the right hand side I feel ok now. :)

That's great that you're feeling better. I think everyone takes it differently and it obviously can depend on where the treatment was in your eye. At least you've had your first lot so you know what you can expect, if it takes 3 days to recover, then take those days to recover. :)

I'm glad to hear you are feeling nearly back to normal (particularly since I said laser isn't a big deal  ).

Thinking back to my first lot of laser, which was pretty high powered I think, I had something unexpected happen, which I will mention just in case it happens to you. About a week after the session I got black dots in my eye. Little dots, spread fairly evenly round my eye (but not 500 of them, though I had had 500 shots). I guessed they were scarring/healing, and not knowing what to expect I wondered if I might have them for ever. The good news was that they went away after a week or so.

Hope the disturbance on your rhs settles soon.

Thanks for mentioning that, the eye specialist also told me of those. :) I see those at night, when facing my bedroom windows the light is blocked by them. I was terribly frustrated out and about yesterday, esp when going to collect my nephew from school. Everyone was just a complete blur, I couldn't pick him out from the crowd at all. Thankfully he seen me and came straight over.

I feel like I'm wearing the wrong glasses all the time, squinting to try and focus. I'm longsighted but now finding things closer to me are easier to see than things a bit further away.

Interesting you mention 500 zaps to your eye, I wonder what the norm usually is. The specialist was aiming for 1000 in mine, though had to stop shortly before he was going to as I was feeling it.

Next appointment through for Thursday next week! 8)
