Worried about my child inheriting my diabetes

Hi

I'm probably getting abit paranoid about this but after being diagnosed as type 2 nearly four years ago (whilst pregnant with my daughter) I now worry alot about her becoming diabetic. I have it because it's hereditary in my fathers side of the family. I've never been over weight and always fairly active, just very unlucky. My fathers father was diagnosed at 80 and my father at around 40, I was 34. What are the odds that my daugter will develop it and what signs should I look out for? Obviously I will make sure she follows a sensible diet and encourage her to be active, but this worries me alot. Should she be routinely tested? She's almost 3 now.

Any advise really appreciated.

Thanks
Meg

I dont have any experience of this at all but as a mum and grandma I would advise trying not to worry I am sure you will keep an eye on her and if she starts to drink to excess and urinate more often then you may be wise to ask your GP for a test for her .I think that if you keep having her tested then you could cause her to worry and there may be nothing to worry about ,children are quick to pick up on parents anxieties Genes are funny things and they dont always do what we think they will.
