@hichamgsm: Your BMI is 17.3. This is "underweight" which means, in my opinion, you should avoid losing weight and actually try to increase a little. My body type is similar to yours, but I am not as thin as you. You need to get that BMI above 18.5 unless you have an unusual body-type that can be healthy even when officially "underweight."

In terms of diet, it probably means you should be careful to make sure to respect the "High Fat" part of the "Low-Carb, High-Fat" diet. To be honest with you, my diet is actually LCLF (low carb, low fat) most of the time and for some reason I still have enough energy and remain (just) in the "normal" weight range. You do not have that luxury -- I assume your weight loss was, probably, a symptom of your diabetes.

If you increase the exercise, make sure to compensate by eating more food, and drinking plenty of fluids. I would suggest exercising after meals, rather than at the end of a fasting period (which could be dangerous).

Ahlan wa sahlan. I should add that your weight loss really does concern me. Did it happen in the few months before your diabetes diagnosis? How much weight did you lose? Information is power.

Sorry to ask yet more personal questions. How old are you? I assume you are male, from your user name. Do you know roughly when the weight loss happened: was it sudden and recent, or did it happen at an earlier time?

Yes, I am a 39 year old man. My condition was diagnosed in 2009 but I did not serve the treatment

In that case you may have lost significant lean mass when your glucose was high. That was what happened to me before my diagnosis. I lost around 10kg. My thighs became very thin although my beer belly stayed.

I would suggest squats to gradually retain/rebuild some key muscle mass. Anywhere from 20 to 100 times/day. And increase your proteins.

Thank you for the information. This probably makes a big difference -- and I hope someone on the forum with a similar experience (i.e. treatment that only started after being diabetic for years) can provide more help than I can. My first thoughts are (and remember I am not a doctor nor an expert):
  • If you have had uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes for eight years, it will probably be harder to control your condition without drugs (and the advice I provided earlier about this may be unrealistic).
  • Have you seen a doctor recently? If you were diagnosed 8 years ago, are you only now starting the drugs that you were prescribed then, or is this the result of a recent doctor visit? (I mention this partly because I got the impression that your Metformin was being sent to you by a friend in Italy, i.e. perhaps not prescribed by a doctor.)
  • Have you had your eyes tested recently and did the eye doctor know that you are diabetic?
  • Do you have neuropathy (tingling or numbness in the feet or hands)?
  • Has a doctor recently examined your feet?
  • Have you been checked for cardio-vascular disease?
This is heavy stuff my friend. You are young (much younger than I am) and you have time to sort out these things.

BTW are those your children in your avatar picture? They are adorable.

I am sorry to keep asking these personal questions. Is it the same doctor as eight years ago? If not, does the new doctor know that you were diagnosed with T2 eight years ago? (I realize this sounds like an obvious question, I just want to make sure.)

In my first diagnosis nine years ago, I did not see the doctor
I analyzed it was 310mg

Now I am really out of my depth (an English expression meaning, I don't know what I am talking about!).

I don't understand how you could self-diagnose in that way and I don't know what "310mg" means. I don't understand how, a month ago you had "many" health problems but now, you are "fine" after taking Metformin. It is a good drug, but not exactly a "wonder drug" if you are starting out with an A1C of above 12 percent. You are also taking Diamicron, which would help explain the improvement, I guess. Prior to starting on the drugs, you have lost an enormous amount of weight (in relation to your body type) -- you now weigh 60 kilos, having lost more than 20. Your BMI is firmly in the "underweight" region.

I am glad that you are getting better, so you are clearly doing a lot of things right. But, if I were you, I would be getting a "second opinion" (about diabetes, and your general state of health) and making sure to consult specialists about your eyes, feet, and cardio-vascular health to make sure there is no diabetes-related damage. I am not you, and quite possibly I am too worried about this.

Take care.

I found out that diet will help you reduce yr.sugar level. When you are ready to do it you will do it. When you get fed up of this Diabetis thing you will fast. Tablets etc have bad side effects like lowering your libido etc. Finally if you then combine it with regular exercise,You have w one. BURN the Diabetis with exercise. After sometime you won't need any drugs and you are free. Diabetis gone.
Totally agree. Well said.
