Health care officials have stated that diabetes cases in the state of Ohio have leapt up in the last decade. The findings, which many attribute to poor eating habits and the spread of a sedentary lifestyle without exercise, indicate that diabetes cases have doubled for the state. In particular, children are becoming more at risk from type 2 diabetes, the most common form of the disease that commonly used to affect adults almost exclusively.
The increase in child type 2 diagnoses is almost certainly related to changing diet and exercise habits. Obesity is a massive problem: children feast on calories and don’t get the exercise that they require.
The Ohio Department of Health revealed the rising rate, which tracked data from 1994 to 2003. It is estimated that the entire diabetic population of Ohio is around 1 million, with approximately 267,000 cases being undiagnosed.
In Ohio, diabetes is reported as being the fifth leading cause of death. Health officials highlighted the need for families to draw together and be active in controlling diabetes together. Families were advised that if a child is suffering from obesity within the family, it is necessary for the entire group to change their behaviour.
