New Diabetes swipe card on the way

Wireless technology has had an impact on all kinds of different industries. In medical terms, wireless products are beginning to make their way into the treatment of chronic diseases. A new wireless device linking a blood glucose meter to an insulin pump is currently under development, and could influence the future of diabetes treatment.
Researchers are currently developing the device, which in theory would allow a measured dose of insulin to be automatically administered when the meter is swiped across the pump. Obviously the dose and measurements, and the swiping process itself, have to be perfect before the product goes to market.
Cambridge Consultants, specialists in this type of technology, will build in a control that enables the patient to refuse the dose. The care manager of diabetes charity Diabetes UK, Natasha Marsland, said: “Any new developments which have the potential to make life easier for people with diabetes are welcomed. For some people, managing their diabetes, especially when not at homen, can be tricky. As technology advances, we look forward to seeing more developments like this in the future.”
