The Indian herb Coccinia Indica could reduce blood sugar levels by as much as 20 per cent, according to a new study in India . The Indian herb has long been recognised as having potential to aid diabetics, and this most recent study adds weight to this.
Diabetics that take a single daily gram of the extract could lower blood sugar levels by as much as 18 per cent after meals. The study, which was double blind, placebo controlled and randomised, was published in leading diabetes journal Diabetes Care .
Recent studies were reviewed by a research team from Harvard Medical School, who said C. Indica had an overwhelming body of evidence that supported its potential benefits.
The study was conducted by a team of experts at the Institute of Population Health and Clinical Research in Bangalore .
