Companies including Diabetes UK rally behind label system

A new traffic light labelling system for foods in supermarkets and shops, reported on yesterday in the diabetes news, has a strong list of corporate and charitable supporters. Hopefully, with the new system being shown to parliament last week, politicians will now be counted amongst them.

Prevention is the key in stemming a healthcare crisis caused by diabetes. For pre-diabetics and those who might become obese, the traffic light system carries a vital warning. Eating badly leads to obesity, obesity leads to type 2 diabetes. The traffic light system clearly marks unhealthy food .

Companies, corporate and charitable entities that stood up to support the scheme included: Diabetes UK, the British Heart Foundation, the National Consumer Council, the National Heart Forum, Netmums.com, Which?, the National Federation of Women’s Institutes, Boots, The Co-operative, Marks and Spencer, McCain, Sainsbury’s, Virgin Trains and Waitrose.
