Australian monuments illuminated for World Diabetes Day

A number of famous Australian landmarks and monuments will be bathed in blue light to mark World Diabetes Day tomorrow, 14th November. The news follows an event two months ago, when 25 key buildings around the country ‘wore’ pink to recognise Breast Cancer Month.
This Tuesday, the buildings will be flooded with a blue light to draw attention to escalating diabetes problems around the world. The list of landmarks will include Flinders Street Station in Melbourne and the Sydney Opera House. Around the world, the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building will be doused in blue.
The chief executive of Diabetes Australia, Matt O’Brie, reportedly commented: “The World Diabetes Day resolution urges governments around the world to implement national policies for the prevention, care and treatment of diabetes in line with the sustainable development of their healthcare systems.”
World Diabetes Day 2007 continues the annual tradition of applying a theme to the occasio, this year it is Diabetes in Children and Adolescents.
