Major healthcare company Johnson and Johnson have made available a £500,000 fund for companies in the south-east.
Eligible health technology companies will be given a financial boost to increase the speed and scope of their research. J&J, who are leading global pharmaceutical group, is focusing in particular on the management and diagnosis of diabetes and its complications.
The aim of the fund is to stimulate UK companies to research and develop new treatments. The chief executive of South East Health Technologies, the funding organisation for this sector, reportedly commented:
There has been a lot of interest from other large pharmaceutical companies in this sector and we fully expect to see further funds announced over the coming months and years.” Biotechnology, medical device and diagnostic firms are all expected to benefit from the funding.
