Recent statistics showing some 24 million people in America (or 8 per cent of the American population) have diabetes have caused shock throughout the diabetes world. The importance of a consistent, effective management and prevention program for diabetes was highlighted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report.
In response to the report, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists released a statement. President Daniel Duick was reported as commenting: “The recent report from the CDC presents a challenge for our country. The incidence of both type 1 and especially type 2 diabetes is increasing dramatically. As the experts in both the prevention and treatment of diabetes, the role of the clinical endocrinologist must continue to grow to meet this challenge.”
The AACE are actively creating and implementing new initiatives to stem the flow of the epidemic by prevention, early diagnosis and effective management.
