According to recent reports from Novo Nordisk, insulin should be used by diabetics at an earlier stage as a way to avoid complications and manage the disease more effectively.
A recent study, co-funded by Novo, found that those patients who used injectable insulin rather than oral medication at an early stage were more likely to achieve normal blood glucose levels .
Earlier use will also benefit Novo Nordisk through more widespread sales of the drug. Using insulin more commonly amongst type 2 diabetes sufferers would open a huge market to the insulin manufacturer.
Insulin revenue already accounts for a significant share of the diabetes treatment market, and is climbing faster than oral diabetic medication.
