According to recent studies in the diabetes news, having diabetes doubles the risk of liver cancer for those patients that have Hepatitis C with advanced fibrosis.
Diabetes apparently increases the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma, liver cancer . The changes diabetes makes to the metabolic system increase the risk of NASH (Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis) which can lead to liver cancer.
A research team at the Erasmus MC University Medical Centre in the Netherlands attempted to quantify cancer risks by gathering a wide variety of date from various patients. Amongst the diabetic patients, researchers indicate that higher risk of liver cancer occurs as fasting glucose levels increase.
