According to scientists, mothers that breastfeed face a lower likelihood of suffering heart attacks and strokes in later life. Furthermore, those women that breastfeed for just a month face a lower risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol .
Researcher Dr. Eleanor Schwarz reportedly commented: ” Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, so it is vitally important for us to know what we can do to protect ourselves. We’ve known for years that breastfeeding is important for babies’ health . Now we know that it is important for mothers’ health as well. The longer a mother nurses her baby, the better for both of them.”
Researchers at Pittsburgh University in America went on to say: “Our study provides another good reason for workplace policies to encourage women to breastfeed their infants.”
The Department of Health recommends that babies are breastfed exclusively until they are six months old. A mother’s milk has been shown to protect babies from developing diabetes .
